Karen yells at me [dad] at the park for using "dog commands" on my daughter.
I was giving my daughter the sign for "sit down" while she was using the playground slide. It's called ASL you wretched cow, she's 18mo and can't talk yet...

Should I let my daughter skip a day of school to celebrate an anniversary with her bf?
This particular daughter is 18, a senior, good grades, already has college paid for, model citizen, etc. etc. But my gut instinct is to say hell no. However, I don’t want to be unfair or unreasonable. I would let her skip for cramps or for a mental health day, but I feel like letting her skip for a one year anniversary with a high school boyfriend is…weird. Like it would be a bad mom move. Like I’d be over-validating this relationship which may one day be an adult relationship, but which is currently two kids tripping on hormones. Looking forward to the thoughts. It’s my first time asking advice on Reddit and I’m kind of nervous 😂

Is this really considered creepy?
Do you consider it creepy if a parent just watches their child(ren) play independently unless their child(ren) ask them to play? Need some outside perspective on this.

My toddler just shit in his play kitchen sink
He took the sink out, put it on the floor and dropped a giant turd in it then put the sink back. His potty was about 6 feet away. I was on the phone in the other room and when I came back in he was so proud of himself. I’m fucking done with today.

When did your baby start liking tv?
Alright, friends. I want to know when your kids started being interested in television. And like, being distracted by it for more than 15 seconds. My 9 month old does not give a single f*ck about TV. And i think that's great! But sometimes, I need 5 minutes to clean up something, or start dinner prep or sit down for a second. I can sometimes get 45 seconds out of Hey Bear to clip her nails... but she's usually done with even that before I can finish them. So, my question is-- is my baby still just a little young to be interested in TV and it may change soon, or do I just have to accept that TV is not a tool in my arsenal for the foreseeable future? TIA! FWIW-- I know about the AAP guidelines. No screen time under 2. Delayed speech, Melting brains, attention issues, etc., etc. I appreciate many may have the impulse to educate me, but I'm good for now, thanks!

Pediatrician said only purees until 9 months?
Uh, so our pediatrician is pretty bossy. My baby is very easy about sleep and she still gives me all these very specific directions about when and how to put him down, when to drop naps, etc. We're introducing solids through cereal with a spoon and bigger chunks of broccoli, fruit, pasta, baby led weaning style. She was adamant he should only be getting purees because of choking risk. He has no teeth, so pretty much I give him big enough chunks that he can't swallow much, he's sucking and playing with the food, and that's good with me because my intention was just to introduce him to textures, getting stuff to his mouth, and sitting at the table with us. How would you handle this? I don't see her again until his 9 month appointment.

Don’t show my kid treats if you’re not going to give them to him!
This is a huge pet peeve of mine. Like, what the actual fuck would possess you to come waltzing in with a package of muffins or donuts, show them to a THREE YEAR OLD, and then tell him he can’t have any until tomorrow!? Like, thank you for your stupid muffins with a side of day long tantrum.

I've counted to over 170,000.
Im a dad of two little girls and my oldest daughter recently turned 4. For the past 3 years, every night when I tuck her in bed, we do a bedtime story together, I share what I know about 3 animals and then I count to 162. Normally she's awake when I'm done or just barely nodding off to sleep. Now that she's four we are beginning to do the counting less frequently and I just realized soon I won't be doing it all. It's both a relief and kind of sad to be honest. But it got me thinking what number would I have counted to if it was consecutive. Back of the napkin math 3 (years) * 365 (days) * 160 (number we count to) gets us over 170,000. They say you you dont get to pick which memories kids retain, so you should give them plenty if good ones to choose from. I think she's got more than a few!

PSA: Helmets are single use!!
If you child falls off their bike while wearing a helmet or is it has any dent or cracks, it needs to be replaced. Once the foam underneath the plastic shell is compressed it can no longer do it’s job. Even dropping dropping a helmet or being rough with it can damage the foam. The damage often isn’t visible and if the helmet did it’s job then they might not realize they hit their head, so it’s always best to err on the side of caution and get a new one.

Does my baby hate me?
FTM, my 6mo baby SCREAMS at me for everything - trying to dress him, trying to undress him, change his nappy, feed him purées, play with him, hold him... I just don't know... Sometimes nothing seems to make him happy. Daddy enters the room and he is all smiles. With the nanny he is relatively happy and content... I love him so much. Is this a development stage? Or does he have a problem? Pain or something he needs and I am not understanding? 😭😭😭 I just want to cry.

Does time spent on screens chatting with family have the same effects as "normal" screen time?
Should you restrict zoom time with grandparents at all? Do we know if it shares some of the downsides of other screen time? And if so, do benefits (e.g. family connection, speech development) outweigh the negatives?
