So much more sensitive now…trigger warning

Im an ICU nurse. My son has cracked my heart wide open… but it’s hard to do my job now. My mind goes to dark places when I see a young guy admitted for some tragic accident. I feel emotional thinking about how fragile life is… how fragile my current state of blissful love for my son is. Today I can’t stop crying watching a mother sobbing as her son is wheeled away to donate his organs… i just feel crushed by her unimaginable pain. I feel a bit depressed coming to work. I was always compassionate before, but this is more. I love my job, but my heart hurts more intensely and more often. I don’t know how I am going to get through all his life without wrapping him in bubble wrap and forcing him to wear a helmet. It’s a beautiful dilemma in a way…. To love this child so much. I just needed to share.

Creative punishment for child stealing

My 8 year old boy and his 11-year old cousin were at an after-hours school function, stole some candy from a concession, and the police were called. The school is very conservative and the boys are suspended until we meet with the principal. My issue with school punishment is that it rarely relates to the bad behavior so I'd like to do something else which reinforces the lesson to be learned. So, any ideas on creative punishment? I'd like for it to relate to stealing, not be publicly humiliating, and for it to be age-appropriate. Ideas??

So none of us are ACTUALLY sleeping right?

Now don’t get me wrong, I am definitely in my bed unconscious for a period of hours and the baby sleeps well but…. I’m never truly asleep. I feel like my brain is on alert constantly so I even wake up tired. This is normal right? It’s like I’m waiting for something, to be needed, whilst a hubs lays there deep in sleep snoring away

Gas stations are dangerous, keep your kids off the barrier walls

So I work at a gas station and as a parent myself it terrifies me when a 9 year old climb’s on top of our pump barrier wall. You know the giant cement wall keeping you from driving right into the pump. It’s like 3 feet tall but that’s a really far fall when your kid smacks their skull on the concrete and dies right then. I know it’s hard to keep track of all three kids at once. But please keep an eye on them. It would keep me up at night knowing I could have prevented your child’s death. If you’re child dies at our gas station our company can place the blame on you and refuse to compensate you for a wrongful death. I’ve almost been hit by people not using their eyes while speeding through and slamming on their brakes too, so for the love of me, keep your children in the car if you’re at the pump. I really don’t want to fight about this, I just wanted to voice how dangerous this is. Keep your children off high place’s and be careful.

That's the same

Am I crazy to not want to drive 2 hours one way for a weekend trip to my in laws house...while my in laws are not there...just so my husband can go out with his old friends for the night? I said he is welcome to go himself. He says it's not fair he would miss the time with the kids. I said we always bend over backwards for him. I didn't feel like it this time. Went upstairs to bed. He followed me up to say "I'm bending over backwards so you can go to work this week." (Our oldest has just tested positive for covid, the last of our family to do so.) Oh. Gee. Thanks. I guess you're right! You watching your own damn kids so I can go to work is the same as 3 members of your family driving 4 hours out of our weekend so you can get drunk with your buddies.

Tell me about your baby’s cradle cap and/or baby acne

My five week old has bad baby acne, and cradle cap that’s mostly along her brow. Last week the pediatrician just advised I keep her cradle cap moisturized (she suggested aquaphor or any unscented baby lotion). I’m just curious to see how others handled their baby’s skin problems!

Should we give kids pocket money for chores?

When he starts school I want to teach my son about money, saving and encourage him to help with chores in the house. I thought a good way to teach him would be to give him pocket money in exchange for doing chores. My parents gave me pocket money for chores when I was a child and I didn't see anything wrong with it. My husband disagrees with this, as he thinks our son will expect to get paid for helping at home. He should be doing chores out of a sense of responsibility. Is it appropriate to give money for kids to help at home? How do you teach your school aged kids about financial responsibility?

Parents with ADHD?

Any parents here with ADHD? I feel like I see so many posts that are exclusively one or the other but there’s never much advice on dealing with parenting while having ADHD. What do you do with your kiddos all day? How do you establish and stick to a schedule? What recommendations do you have for snacks for toddlers? How do you deal with having a newborn when you can barely keep track of anything? Note: not seeking medical advice. I am currently under the care of a wonderful team to help me manage this. Thanks in advance!

Wouldn’t life be easier for both parents and infants if parents would observe, relax and enjoy what their child is doing, rather than keep teaching what the child is not yet capable of? -Magda Gerber, #parenting

Does teething affect temper?

Hello My 2yo daughter is pretty terrible in the last 3-4 days. She is very easily irritated and troubled all day. It is pretty hard to communicate with her, because she starts crying and seeking mom for whatever reason (like not being able to take a bus she sees in a video). She has some little fever like 37.2 degrees Celsius, which drops and comes back. Can’t say, could be measuring it wrong. The pediatrician said could be teething issue, because she currently has 3 teeth coming with pretty red and swollen gums and two teeth are out on 50%. Could teething be the reason of her temper? Never had such issues with other teeth but she was little and could not express herself like now. Thanks!
