Kids aren't born hating, they are taught to do it.

Yesterday I took my 20 mo old for a walk and we ran into a little 2 yr old asian girl and her mother. My kid just hugged the girl and refused to let go. They don't understand each other, don't speak the same language, don't look the same and still my kid just wanted to spread love and confort. In this very difficult time let's encourage our kids to be kid to everyone, teach with example. Avoid critizicing other and negative comments when your kids are around. Allow your kids to remain innocent and loving.

Mommy doesn't to be here with you

"She thinks there are more importent thing to do." said my partner to our two year old daughter while I was in the kitchen making dinner and she called me. Damn him.

Leaving baby alone in car?!

I feel as though the answer is obvious, but please let me know if I’m alone in thinking this is absolutely not OK…. Would you feel ok about letting your two month old sleep alone in their car seat in the car while you went inside a grocery store to “grab something real quick.” It is 70 degrees and sunny outside. Again, I think this is not ok at all. Am I nuts?? Because I am being made to feel like I’m nuts.

Making science class more culturally relevant is just one of the strategies K-12 science teachers are using to better engage students of color at a time when Black and Hispanic people remain underrepresented in STEM careers. @IleanaNajarro https://t.co/ecNdKT9ChZ

Is it too late to embrace movement as an adult if sports aren't your thing? Actually, there’s no need to run a marathon or join a baseball league! You can still enjoy movement in many other ways. Here's how to get active when you’re a non-sporty parent: https://t.co/L78kYQDR6L https://t.co/1Q415h2CEu

It’s official!

I just found out that the kids and I will be allowed to move into our new place on March 8th. Far, far away from my husband. He has no idea and won’t until we’re long gone. He works late that night so it’s absolutely perfect. I can’t share this with anyone because if he finds out we’re fucked. But I’m so happy I could cry. The place is tiny and our budget will be way tighter without my husbands income, but we’ll be safe and won’t have to walk on eggshells. It sucks that my kids don’t even know what’s about to happen but it’s the only way. If you feel so inclined, please pray that I don’t go into labor before then. Postpartum recovery will screw up all my plans.

If I’m 50% native and my husband is Caucasian does that make our son 25% native?

My dad is 100% Native American. Both of his parents come from the same tribe. My mom is Caucasian. So I’m 50%. My husband is Caucasian so does that make our baby 25% native? Obviously he’s for the most part Caucasian and there’s nothing wrong with that. Simply curious. Our son is only a month old, but I just can’t wait to teach him all about his ancestors. It’ll also make me learn some more myself. I guess it doesn’t matter what percentage of native my son is. Just the fact that I’m native makes me want to teach him about our ancestors.

When our children express concern about world events, it can be hard to know how to respond.🤔 Saying 'don't worry' doesn't help. I find these work 👇 - it's thoughtful of you - what are your concerns - idk, want to explore it together (can decide when). What works for you?

New Parent - am I being selfish?

Advice desired! I am 7 months pregnant, and trying to figure out what work looks like after maternity leave. The whole pregnancy my job made it seem as if I would have some WFH options after maternity leave, but after a call with regional today it was made very clear that is not an option at all, and I'll either have to go back full time, or switch to part time. I want to switch to part time, and be home 2 days/week, but that would mean taking a significant pay cut, and losing my PTO and benefits. My husband is very supportive and has a good job, so we would still be able to financially make things work, but I cannot help but feel as if I am being selfish for wanting to be home with my child for 2 days a week. I could stay home only 1 day/week and keep my benefits/PTO, but that's not what my heart desires. I don't know what to do, I am very conflicted and just want some unbiased advice.

Baby Food Dilemma??

FTM - my little one is 4 months this week, and yesterday our Pediatrician gave us the thumbs up to start purees. She warned me that store bought brands have been found to contain unsafe levels of arsenic and heavy metals. I want to get a machine to make his food at home when I can, but with our schedules, it's not always going to be possible. What the heck am I supposed to feed him when literally everything is unsafe or not in our budget?? My husband and I hardly ever even eat because we can't afford groceries. We eat 1 meal a day if we're lucky. I can't afford to purchase these fancy supposedly safe online baby food brands, but I also can't always make fresh food for him at home. I'd kill to have the money to be a stahp so I could do more for him, but it's just not a possibility for us. 😞 What do you all get for your kids? How do you know what's safe?

My 2 year old was just diagnosed with apraxia!

It’s so nice to have a diagnosis. The speech therapist said he does not have autism, just issues coordinating his motor functions. He goes once a week, and has already improved so much in a month! We don’t have any real words yet, but he is speaking and signing with intention now. I am optimistic about his progress!

My son's new playdoh set drives me nuts

There's a "french fries maker" where you squeeze the playdoh through square holes so it looks like there's french fries in a cup. I can barely squeeze the french fries through with my adult hands. My 4yo whines and hands it to me every time he tries. There's a "shredded cheese maker" where you insert playdoh into a cylinder, attach a grinding handle and grind out little flakes of "shredded cheese". Itty bits of playdoh fly out all over the table and onto the floor. LO steps on them and tracks them all over the house. There's always hardened playdoh to clean out of the gears. Of course he loves it and plays with it every day.

What are some safe, funny april fools pranks that kids can play on their parents?

My kids are 8 and 5. They are interested in playing pranks on me and their mama for April Fools Day. She and I said we'd help them play a prank on each of us, just looking for ideas that we can all enjoy.

Currently going on 5 hours of pitocin with no change in cervix and no big contractions… what gives?

I’m currently here at the hospital being induced at 39+1… Started pitocin at 9:30 AM; was already 3 cm upon arrival and having minor contractions in my own. Contractions started coming a little more intensely when the nurse upped pitocin to 6. But now it’s 2:30 PM, I’ve been upped to level 16 pitocin (almost max dose!), and my cervix hasn’t changed at all and contractions are not significant. I tried asking the doctor whether this is normal and what’s going to happen next, but she was super vague and I’m left sitting here wondering what’s going on. Has anybody dealt with this?

We don't talk about it...

Someone at work just walked by and said "That's some scowl. Must be having some deep thoughts this morning!" Yeah, haha! Definitely deep. I certainly don't have "We don't talk about Bruno" stuck in my head for the fifth week running and can't remember the lyrics so I'm running over the same verse over and over in an endless maddening cycle! Bonus round: I work at a preschool. Every time I think I've beaten this thing *guess what soundtrack they put on???*
