How does lower income family have so many kids and support them?

We have two young kids. My wife doesn't work so she can take care of them. I make about 75k. We own a house with two paid off cars but still feel like we're struggleling to get by. Once both kids are in school my wife will need to work. I just saw some one posted they're expecting a 6th child with a combine income of 70K, how the heck do you support your kids?

What are your favorite baby books?

I will be going to a baby shower (it’s a baby girl) in a month and the invitation suggest to bring a baby book instead of a card. So I need some ideas for books. I don’t want to do anything too popular (goodnight moon, rainbow fish) as I don’t want the baby to end up having two or more of the same books.

Not all kids are sporty types. And that's totally okay! Here's a great list of activity ideas for the kids in your life who aren't into sports. https://t.co/tE9uaZxf1o

After 17 months of fighting a near constant diaper rash...

It was the fucking zinc cream. I had tried everything, changing diet, baths every single day, frequent periods of free bum time. I went to the doctor and got anti-fungal creams, steroid creams, the works. Finally, I ran out of zinc cream one day and had to use Vaseline... suddenly, within hours, her rash started to look better. I couldn't believe it. After around 5 days of just using Vaseline, it's gone. She has had this rash her entire life. At some points we had nearly kicked it, at others it was so bad it was literally blistering (hence the doctors visits). Literally everyone told me the zinc cream was key to kicking the rash, so I never even questioned it... I really wish I had questioned it.

Father wanting food for overnight visits.

Our little girl stays over a couple of nights a week at her dads. He always asks for cheese, bacon, sausages, 2-4 frozen ready meals and other bits and pieces. Tonight I bought a lot of food, and he’s told me he only wants her 24 hours. He eats the food after she leaves. His argument is he provides the bread and milk for her. How do I handle this? I don’t mind providing food but I feel this is a bit cheeky! He is on universal credit so only has 9 pounds a day to live on.

Pregnant and due to induce two days after SIL 300 person wedding.

So I have a medical condition and the latest I can induce is two days after my SIL wedding. Being that we will be bringing a fragile baby into this world just two days after being around 300 plus people at a two day wedding, we also have young children that will be at the wedding running around. We think we should skip the wedding because of the risk it imposes on the new baby. We are super social people and very close to the family and this was a HARD decision. But family doesn’t seem to understand our paranoia, saying wear a mask etc. husband and I are both MD doctors, we understand how viruses work and we have seen first hand the effects of these illnesses on newborns, and it’s not good. We told her about the babys due date before she booked venue, and she still booked it , so I feel it’s okay that we miss because she knew ahead of time.

Had “the talk” with our kiddo today and feel like we’ve earned a parenting merit badge!

My husband and I took our 11 year old son on a hike today and stopped on a bench next to a waterfall and gave him “the talk.” Hubby and I were both nervous, but we watched a few YouTube videos from child physiologists and (believe it or not) Kristen Bell, and it actually went really well! Feeling so proud of us as a parenting team. I wish they had parenting merit badges. Today was a big one.

Don’t wish time away

As I lie here with my 9 month old peacefully sleeping on me , I’m saddened that this will only last so long ! I regret wishing her to grow when she was so tiny down to my anxiety , I miss the hours upon hours of her sleeping on me , the feeding every few hrs , her tiny newborn noises ! She is growing and has grown so much and I am so in love with her ❤️ and adore watching her change , just wanted to share with other new mamas and dads don’t wish it away it goes far too fast enjoy every second , the good and the bad x

Kid gifts

My sweet 4 year old decided to bring me flowers after she came back from a walk with her dad. I love her dearly and am touched by the present, but I am also quite allergic to something about flowers. Maybe pollen, maybe grass, not quite sure. Anyway, I gushed over the flowers (between wheezes) and suggested that my beautiful girl put them in water in the kitchen so I could admire them from a non allergenic distance. She came running back in with the flowers in a cup, and now they are on my work desk making me sneezy. I love my girl so much...dammit.

What's the nicest thing your kid has said to you lately?

Last night as I was putting my four year old to bed, her tummy ached a little so I set her up with a little heating pad and her favorite stuffie. Gave her a kiss Goodnight and sang a few lullabies. The same thing we do every night. But last night, she gently held my face and said, "you're the best mom in the world because you take care of me so well. I don't even know how you do it!" I waited until I left the room to cry lol. As parents, we focus on everything we're doing less than perfect--when's the last time your kids showed you what a great job you're actually doing?

...it is the psychology of the child, the life of his soul, that has gradually dictated what might be called a pedagogy and a method of education. If I can be said to have a method of education, it is one based on the psychic development of the normal child. -Montessori, #kids

10 month...

Sleep regression has just started..I feel like I can't do this anymore. His sleep has been dreadful since 6.5 months and in the last few weeks it started to incrementally improve. Now. Boom! Crap naps. Crying his eyes out if I transfer him to his crib. Only wanting to sleep on me. I am exhausted and absolutely sick of this.
