How to get a 4yo to understand it doesn’t have to be dark outside to go to sleep
My youngest has decided he wants it to be dark outside for him to sleep. We have blackout curtains but he is adamant unless the sun is down it’s playtime! Help 🙈 I don’t know how to explain in summer we go by time instead 😂

Any moms here who were higher risk for PPD but didn't have it?
I had a very rough childhood which resulted in having depression for most of my life but I have worked on my mental health and have been stable for the last few years. But this does put me at a higher risk of developing PPD. I'm 11 weeks pregnant and I'll be preparing myself for the possibility of having PPD and create a plan for it. But I would love to hear other experiences with a similar situation. I'm preparing for the worst just in case, but I've been feeling so good and stable the last few years, I can't help but feel like I might get lucky and not get PPD. Did any of you not get PPD with a history of depression?

Dude….
Apparently one of the local outdoor shopping centers had an egg hunt this weekend. In their FB post they said adults were shoving kids over and eventually a whole crowd of older kids and adults basically rampaged the event and took all the eggs leaving a lot of little kids with empty baskets. I totally understand helping your toddler to pick up a few eggs but I’ve seen more and more adults just running through and snatching up all the eggs they can for their kids at big egg hunts. This is some next level nonsense.

should I let my wife's parents take my 7 year old to Hungary?
My wife is from Hungary and her parents absolutely love my daughter. I didn't want her to go, but since she spends weekends and few days at my moms house where we live in UK, we had an argument why can't she go with her parents.. my daughter loves being there too, but I'm a worried dad not sure what to do. Her mom wants to take my daughter for 4 days. Should I stop my daughter going ?

Being called "mommy" by people who *aren't* your kids
Am I the only one who is bothered by this? I'm talking about when people (parents, in-laws, friends, strangers in the store, anyone *other* than your kids) call you mom, momma, or (cringest of all) mommy now that you happen to be a mother. Shit makes my skin crawl. No, I'm not *your* mommy. Do not baby-talk to me. That's weird and cringe. I'm a person, you know. I have a name. Am I alone in this squick? Or am I cringe for finding this distasteful?

If you are a iPhone user!
I recently discovered there is a sound machine function on iPhones! Already used it a ton. Thought maybe other iPhone using parents would like to know! Go to: Settings>Accessibility>Audio/visual>Background sounds. There’s a few different options but it’s helped me get LO back to sleep or drown out unexpected noises. Cheers!

It happened
I am finally a mother. For 10 whole years I have been praying for a little baby boy, and I finally have him. He looks just like my husband and I. A perfect mix of us both. My eyes and nose with his hair color, bone structure and cleft. He does look more like my husband, his family keeps reminding me just how much, but it’s great. My little boy is only a few months old now but my husband and I are fully in love with him. He is so amazing. The rest of my life is so exciting now. I just wanted to share my excitement with everyone.

If you're gonna be THAT kinda husband. Imma be THAT kinda wife!
If you're going to be the kind of husband who puts on chunky headphones and turns the volume up so you can avoid helping your wife with your toddler ... Imma be the annoying bitch wife that screams your name 10 times louder and louder until you get nervous the neighbours will here. By the way, when you reply like "WHAT!?!!!" I damn well know your ass heard me the first time. Fuck your video game. I hope you lose.

Research on only children versus siblings?
Had one kiddo that we love dearly and she's almost a year old, but pregnancy was hard and while it's amazing, it's also exhausting at the same time. I am looking for any science behind outcomes of only children versus those that have at least one sibling? I know that's not the only thing to base a decision like this on, but when I think about a second one, I find it in the context of my own positive experience with a sibling coupled and the fact we have shared experiences that we've bonded over. There is a lot of emotional stuff surrounding this so I am looking for any research that I can dive into.

Disciplining toddlers
This is probably a hot topic everywhere but esp in our house right now. We have added to this the fact that my mother in law watches our kids while we are at work. I have an almost 3 year old and a 7 month old. The biggest thing is going to be consistency, but before we get there we need to all be on the same page. So I am looking for some science based methods of discipline for toddlers and also some reasonable toddler expectations. For example, we have differing views on spanking and time outs. Sometimes I feel like my husband’s expectations of our daughter are too high while he feels like I am too soft. Would love some science based input to help navigate this.

Toys for 4months and up?
My daughter (I think) is getting rather bored of her toys and I am looking to get some that will actually help her development. I know a lot, if not all, now claim they do but it’s just to get people to buy. So I’m looking for any opinions that you guys have on toys that will keep her engaged (while I cook or go to the bathroom) but also toys we can play with together!
