What was your most hard realization about motherhood?
So - I’m a soon-to-be-mother. My husband and I are looking forward to our first baby 🥰 And surely I’ve like a 1000 thoughts about the mother, I will become. And I was wondering: What was your most hard realization about motherhood? What shocked you the most about becoming a parent?

A tip for parents of young adults: “Get a hobby, a friend, a book club,” says @jlythcotthaims. “Spend some hours every day not focused on your child." It will be better for the child and the parent in the long run. @LindaFlanagan2 https://t.co/1PxKWEXVTO

Driving kids without a car seat
My brother drives his kids (age 6 and 2) without any sort of car seats in his car. Granted, he usually takes them only a mile away to their daycare, it still worries me and my SIL, but he doesn’t care to listen. I’ve thought about calling the cops on him, but I’m afraid of CPS getting involved? My SIL is involved in their daily care and they are well cared for but not strapped in when being dropped off. Any idea what the repercussions of no car seats are? They are located in Texas. Another option would be to find an officer who can “scare” my brother into installing seats. I just don’t know anyone personally.

Do you ever let your baby watch tv?
Before having a baby I was all ‘no screen time before x age’ yet here I am with my 3 month old watching shitty tv with her on my lap watching along with me because it is the ONLY way to get her to stop crying right now. When she’s fussy at night this tends to work, so we’ve been watching around 45 minutes of tv together each night. I kind of feel like the worlds worst parent but also the crying is just a lot. What’s your views on tv and babies?

I offered to buy my daughter’s artwork, is that a good idea?
My daughter was trying to improve her skills this afternoon and I liked this one artwork she made, so I offered to buy it from her. Is that a good idea? How do people feel about it? She’s over the moon and drawing even more now, but I already explain that once I own one I’m not going to be buying all artwork. She’ll have to improve again. My goal is to get her motivated to do some focused practice.

I'm pregnant with my first and I'm totally lost
I feel sick to my stomach, I don't know where to start or how I'm going to stop working or what to buy. I'm starting to freak out a bit. I don't know any recent moms so any advice would be greatly appreciated

Chores for a kid that is only here every other weekend.
My son is 10 and is only with me every other weekend + some holidays/breaks. Lately I’ve noticed that he can’t even make basic cold meals for himself(cereal, sandwich, etc). He also doesn’t clean anything unless I deliberately ask—like picking up his clothes and putting them in the hamper or throwing his trash away. I’ve never asked him to do dishes, wipe anything, take out trash, etc. But now I’m thinking I might be doing him a disservice. I don’t want him to have to do chores at my house since our time is limited but after talking with his mom, he doesn’t do anything over there either. I don’t want him growing up not understanding the work it takes to keep a home or to keep yourself fed. What are your thoughts on the weekend parent implementing chores? If I should do it, how do I get this started? And how can I be clear that this isn’t punishment or me being lazy?

first dentist visit?
Dentist said "oh, you can bring him in super early, before he even has teeth!" Which... you know... the dentist isnt free and that seems excessive. When do you folks take your kids to the dentist for their first trip?

What nick-names does everyone have for their babies and why?
We have little monkey coz' he has a cheeky little monkey face, monk-monk, which is just a shorter version of little monkey, chubby chub coz' of his cheeks, chimp, stink butt for obvious reasons haha Boff bag because his sleeping bags smell of his farts when you open it up in the morning haha! Tomato sauce fingers, because when he's teething and has had his fingers in his mouth they smell like Heinz tomato sauce for some reason, and vinegar feet, because they sometimes have a slight vinegar smell! Hahaha!

My ex wants full custody
Even though he can’t watch her for 3 days without calling me to come get her because the dishes are piling up and he’s stressed because he’s unemployed and his roof leaks. She’s been living with me full time since September and he’s had her 10 days total. His moms watched her during the day for most of them. His reasons for wanting full custody are because I refuse to get back with him and I am “mentally unstable” for refusing to be talked over and gaslit any longer. But he’s a great dad, according to Instagram. The delusions of this man are so fantastical that I could literally write an entire D&D campaign based on his fiction.
