Daughter (10) did not want to go to her Grandfathers today

So she made up an assignment that she needed to work on to stay home. Husband went alone and daughter is currently working on a fake assignment researching 10 countries of the world. This is an assignment she concocted in her head and is determined to finish. Bonus, she asked me to show her how to make a fun spreadsheet using Google Sheets to keep her research tidy.

Son comforting me in the sweetest way after an injury

I broke a rib today during practice. Hurts like hell. When I got home I got the hickups, which almost brought me to my knees. My 6 year old son got me a glass of water, stroked my back and told me that "I'll take care of you mommy". I of course explained to him why I was in pain, and that I would be alright. Later that night when I was reading him a bedtime story, I sneezed and winced. Without a word he took his favourite stuffed toy, gently placed it against my sore rib, and started bandaging me with his duvet cover. He kissed my forehead and told me that I could have his best friend, because he would protect me from hurting. I broke down crying and told him how amazingly kind and thoughtful he is. So damn proud!

Is anyone else participating in the Reddit blackout?

I’m a software developer, so I have chosen to stand with the 3rd party app developers and go dark, starting tomorrow. I’m not sure when I’ll be back, but I’m kinda sad. I mostly lurk around, but you Bromoms make me feel less alone. If you don’t know what I’m referring to, here is more information: [going dark](https://www.reddit.com/r/Save3rdPartyApps/comments/13yh0jf/dont_let_reddit_kill_3rd_party_apps/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1) Y’all might want to read regardless so you’re not surprised when half of Reddit is down tomorrow.

Ferber method doesn’t work

The Ferber method hasn’t worked for us (LO is 6 months old) so what other methods have you tried when that doesn’t work? I’m not gonna let him just cry and cry until he falls asleep and I’d really like him to at least nap in his crib. He used to sleep in his bassinet at night but when he was going through his 4 month sleep regression we started to do sleep and he has refused the bassinet ever since. Thanks for any tips or tricks!

Moms who've had both a Foley balloon and an IUD, which is worse?

I'm currently 32 weeks with my second, and I had an emergency C-section with my first. My doctor said we'll use a Foley balloon to start the induction process which I've never experienced because we used Misoprostol last time. I've heard a LOT of mixed reviews about the pain level for the Foley and I'm getting nervous. Having my IUD placed after my son was born was legitimately the most torturous and painful thing I've ever experienced. For those who have had both, how would you say the compare?

Feeling defeated about play dates

Posting mainly to vent, not sure what it’s like for other families but the whole play date situation is getting me down! My oldest is turning 5 and I feel like every time we have a play date it’s because I’ve arranged it, we never get invites in return. We have so many families repeatedly cancelling on us, usually last minute, I can’t help but think I’m doing something wrong. I keep putting myself out there, it just feels rough. We were the only ones in our friend group to have kids, and then we moved to a new city a couple years ago. I try to give myself compassion and tell myself it’s hard to create a village….but dang, I’m getting nervous for their 5th birthday, all they want is a big party with lots of friends but that’s starting to seem like mission impossible. Just had to get this out somewhere, I try to keep a positive outlook at home but jeeeeeez. I never thought one of the hardest parts of parenting would be facilitating friendships for my kids.

One zip PJs all the way

While pregnant, everyone said to get double zipper pajamas which I get. I do like them, it’s nice to unzip at the bottom and change a diaper - east! Problem: you unzipped from the bottom, changed diaper, legs out. But now you want to change the outfit. You have to put the legs back in, bottom zipper down, and then unzip from the top and remove outfit. You can’t remove the pajamas with both zippers at the top. Is this just me or has anyone else had this experience? I’m all about one zipper pajamas now.

Got rid of our dining table and my mil is horrified

My daughter is almost 6 and we've had our table and chairs for about 3 years now and I can count on one hand the amout of times weve actually sat at it for our meals. It was mainly used for colouring in at, playing barbies etc, everything but a dining table. We have a small 2 bed open plan house and got a conservatory built at the back of the house to create extra space because it really is a small house. We have a coffee table and nest of tables and my daughter likes to use the bigger table to eat at with her little chair, and usually my husband an i sit with our plates on trays. We all sit in the living room, no TV or anything on over mealtimes so we do spend time together etc. My mil just knows how to get under my skin and make me feel shit. Is a dining table really essential

10 hour road trip with a 4 month old?

We’re having our first baby at the end of July. My parents want us to come to them for Thanksgiving. It would be a 10-hour drive. This seems insane to me. The response I got was, “babies travel just fine.” Thoughts? Flights are $800/person :/

Vaccines

Tomorrow my LO is getting vaccinated, and I'm anxious. Just the thought of my baby crying breaks my heart, but it's necessary. Any tips to not cry my eyes out?

Brother in law issue: He told my son it’s okay to cheat at heads up seven up

My brother in law told my 2nd grade son to look at peoples shoes when his head is down during heads up 7-up. He told him that it’s okay to peek, and “that’s the point of the game” I’ve bout had it with the s.o.b. If he wants to ruin his own kids, that’s his business. My wife told me I’m overreacting. But I think she’s just defending her brother again. Any advice on handling this?

Overfed formula - should I worry?

I accident measured and gave my baby double the amount of formula I should have. 4.5 oz of water and 4 scoops of formula. I was so tired and not thinking. From what I could find online, one time and he’ll get fine. I just worry I’ve messed him up somehow.

Working mother

I miss my babies so much 😭 my husband recently broke his back so I'm currently the one working full time. I leave the house at 8 am and come home at 9:30 at night I can't stand being apart from them. I miss them so much it hurts. I know it won't last forever but seeing them once in the morning then leaving and not seeing them till the next morning is killing me. Can anyone relate?

Autistic parent

Hi all, there's lots of advice regarding tips on dealing/helping autistic children but what if the parent is autistic. I'm specifically looking for tips/advice on how the dad can deal with the noise/sensory overload/lack of routine of having a 4 month old infant. Also, any books in the subject would also be helpful. Thank you.
