What is at least one thing you wish you had brought with you when you went to the hospital?

For me: Baby wipes. Oh dear God. I knew the hospital provided diapers. Stupid me did not realize that they do not also provide wipes. Cleaning those meconium stools with just water on a paper towel was not fun. Let us just leave it at that...

Why are men so gross…

My husbands Reddit search tab is open, recent searches are ‘barelylegalteens’ and ‘erotic(insert the town we live in.)’ I’m just like…why. That’s gross. We have daughters. We’re married. He’s a good dad. We’re best friends. There was infidelity on his part years ago. And I’ve decided not to confront him on anything again until catching him in the act. But I just feel so disheartened. Like, are all men like this? Please tell me not all men are like this?

How many miscarriages are missed miscarriages?

I guess my question isn't strictly about parenting, but I couldn't think of a better place to ask. I'm trying to find statitstics on how common missed miscarriages are. What percentage of all miscarriages happen without clear symptoms like bleeding or cramps? The only number I found online was 1-5% of all pregnancys. Does anyone has more/better data than this (since there is a pretty big difference between 1 and 5 percent). I'm pregnant for the second time and due to work obligations my first appointment is pretty late (10 weeks). I know you can never be sure, but I'm wondering.. if I don't have any symptoms of a miscarriage, how likley is it that the fetus is alive and well? TIA!

Do you take your NB out?

My LO is 7 weeks old and we have been going to church 2 sundays now but I still feel anxious going out with her because I'm afraid she's gonna start crying and won't stop I think I'm taking her out too early? Do you guys go places with your LO or rather be home until they're older?

How much did you want to go out with friends during MS or HS?

Trying to figure out a baseline for ‘normal’ for a kiddo’s neuropsychology When you were 12-18 (or whatever life stage you would say you ‘hang out with friends’ not ‘have play dates scheduled by your parents’ … How much (days/week, or hours/week) would you have wanted to hang out with friends outside of school if you didn’t have homework / chores / job/ sports / parents telling you no? Myself and my eldest are extroverts who would hang out with friends 7 days a week if we didn’t have responsibilities, so trying to figure out more of a ‘normal.’ TIA!

Introverts with extroverted kids?

Any advice? My kid talks at me constantly, and I'm honestly losing my brain. I like quiet, I like being able to think straight, and even though I love talking with her, she's driving me nuts with the constant chatter and just constant NEED. Any advice?

Awesome conversation with my daughter.

My daughter who is 2 and a half doesn’t talk much. So far she’s said maybe a handful of words, whereas her 1 year old brother has almost the same vocabulary as her. This week however she’s been so much more vocal. Almost like a switch clicked on. Today though we had somewhat of a conversation and it made me so happy and can’t even describe it. My wife was trying to get her to sleep but I wanted to say goodbye before I went to work. Her: “look, look!” Me “look at what?” Her (looking at the outside cats) “look! Awww” Me “no kitties right now, It’s nap time. Daddy’s got to go to work, I love you.” Her “I love you daddy” (I looked at my wife) “did she just…?” My wife “yep” (I gave my daughter a hug) “I’m so proud of you. You’re doing so good! Be good for mommy okay?” Her “nope” starts giggling Me “no? You’re silly. Bye I love you.” As I was leaving the room I hear a very clear “bye!” She’s awesome

Questioning parenthood

I (25f) am questioning if I want to become a mother in the future. For some context, I grew up pretty much always wanting to be a mom. I’m a pretty empathetic and nurturing individual and kids have always been a part of my plan for the future. I worked in childcare for a few years. I’m currently in grad school (just started it), single (currently on a hiatus from it until I figure out this parenthood question), and am wanting to become a marriage and family therapist in the future. I first started questioning it because I want to make sure I become a parent because I want to, not because it’s something society and my family expects of me. So I suppose what I’m seeking from you all is advice, pros and cons list, anything you can offer up on what I need to consider when it comes to officially deciding if I want to have children in the future or not. Any advice or reality checks are very welcome ❤️🙏🏻

Solid Starts worth it?

LO is almost 5 months old, and pediatrician gave the go ahead to start rice cereal and some veggie puree. I want to track what he likes and doesn't like, what we've given him, etc and Solid Starts seems like the default app to do it with. Anyone have feedback on if the paid subscription is worth it? Or other apps to use?

Do daytime naps magically get better, or you must sleep train?

Baby is 4.5 months. "Drowsy but awake" works in the evening in the crib and during the day in the Fisher swing. And in those instances he'll sleep for a long time. But "drowsy but awake" never works for daytime crib naps - for those you have to rock him fully to sleep, and he'll then wake up in 30min. I've tried letting him fuss in the crib for naps but he'll cry for 45+ minutes :( Any stories of babies just falling in love with daytime crib naps? What worked for you?

Baby is bored. Need out of the house & socialization ideas. Where do you GO and what do you DO?

Especially when it's hot/sunny or cold/rainy. We've been going for walks at 7am and 7pm everyday to avoid the blazing sun. That leaves a huge block of time to fill on weekends :( He needs a lot more movement and socialization, so plopping him on a blanket in the yard/park doesn't cut it anymore. I'm super stumped because the outdoor pools are closed for the season, and the very few community activities I can find like story time and infant music classes are on weekday mornings when I'm at work. Are there any community resources, activities, etc. in your area for babies that happen in the afternoons or on weekends? What do other working parents do?!

Tips to bring down a fever?

My 5 month old son first week of daycare. Friday he came back, said that he threw up his formula. He never does that. Then my wife and i felt that he is hot. Got a fever of 102 the highest. Tested him and negative for C-19 Took him to pediatrician, said he has sores in his throat but he also tested negative for strep. Pedia recommended to hydrate him, even advised to use small amounts of pedialyte. Questions are. 1. What are the best ways to bring down fever? 2. Is pedialyte safe enough? not sure if his stomach could handle it. 3. Any tips to soothe the throat? I noticed when we feed him he will stop at some point and cry. It must hurt him, so we feed him slowly.

Is it unreasonable to expect my husband to help with one night feed?

My husband gets up at 6 and works from 8-4. We had agreed that he would bottle feed our now 4 week old at midnight and put her down which generally takes an hour. This would give me a 4 hour stretch of sleep, then I get up at 3 am and 6 am letting him sleep as uninterrupted as possible with a baby. The past couple days he’s been too tired so I’ve been doing all the night feeds and I’m really struggling. Our baby is starting to have feeding struggles and I’m having a hard time mentally keeping up and I’m exhausted. My parents are also out of town so I’m house/cat sitting for them during the day. Anyways am I unreasonable for resenting him for this? Thanks.
