Gateway to #empathy = emotion literacy. Girls hear more emotion words than boys so talk emotions more with your sons. Give boys permission to show their feelings. #Boys often open up while doing-sit with ur son: play a game, exercise &talk abt feelings. #SEL

Concert earplugs are making me a better parent.
So I canāt take yelling and whining. Iām a single mom with ADHD and some sensory issues, so itās almost impossible for me to tune out. It makes my skin crawl and puts me on edge until I lose my shit. It also make it hard to say no in an effective way. So I got concert earplugs- the kind that reduce volume but donāt eliminate sound completely. Itās been a game changer because I can remain calm and supportive but enforce boundaries. For example today my four year old is sick and screaming no at everything like his brain is stuck. I was about to lose it and then I remembered my earplugs. I can be calm and sympathetic now. Just wanted to give the tip to others that might struggle with the same thing.

*me wondering why I have crippling anxiety and am often triggered by my child's behavior*
My mom giving me parenting advice: "When you guys were potty training we would just hold on you toilet until you finally went. I guess that's kind of mean isn't it?" "He just needs his ass beat, then he'll stop hitting his brother." HE'S THREE "I never babyproofed the house, you guys just listened because you knew you'd get in trouble." Me explaining that my 11 month old gets into everything. I could keep going for hours. Cheers to breaking toxic parenting cycles š¤¦āāļø

Does anyone else have anxiety/dread about your LO and climate change?
As though I needed another reason to lose sleep, Iāve been having a really hard time stressing about climate and whether it was the right choice to bring my LO into what seems to be a dying world. I donāt mean from a contribution to climate change perspective, I just feel so sad when I think that someday Iām going to have to explain to him whatās happening and why we couldnāt do anything to stop it (since, letās face it, it aināt looking good). Will he resent me for it? Thatās assuming some looming catastrophe doesnāt destroy modern society as we know it in one fell swoop (which is a whole other worry). Is existential dread on any other parents minds?

Returning/exchanging diapers with no receipt?
We just had our baby shower and got a TON of NB and size 1 diapers. Now from what I have heard, we wonāt need a lot of either size since they grow so quickly. I donāt know where they were purchased nor do I have any receipts. Does anyone have tips on where/how to return or exchange? I know target has a $75 limit for returns without receipts and I already have a few things to return there (people bought stuff that was not from the registry and now I have duplicates and no gift receiptsš ) Edit: I have ~200 NB diapers. Easily 300-400+ size 1s

Meltdown at the zoo because he was hot and hungry
And no, it wasnāt my toddlerā¦it was my husband. I could tell he was getting aggravated so I offered him one of the many snacks that I had packed. He refused. Heās complaining that heās hot but wonāt remove his sweatshirt??? Then he starts rushing our toddler through the zoo because he wants to leave. Obviously, toddlers do not respond well to being rushed through an exciting place, and in the process she lost her favorite puppy toy. So now sheās sobbing on the ride home and we are arguing in the front seats. Idk you guys. Heās usually a fantastic dad and partner but today has been awful. Did I mention that the zoo was his idea??! Iām so confused and angry about his behavior.

Currently in labor with a toddler and an 8yo who's home from school.
Currently almost 5cm dilated, and kind of miserable. Didn't sleep well last night, my kids woke up and chose violence this morning and my 8yo is home for veterans day and being BEYOND annoying. He's woken his sister up at 530am, and BOTH of her naps because he's being obnoxious. We have a 4 bedroom house... It's not like we live in a closet where he has to tip toe around. I'm having pretty steady contractions, my mom is in a meeting she can't leave until 5pm, husband is still at work for another hour and I'm just done. My toddler is an overtired mess, my 8yo thinks I'm a jerk. Dude I'm just done with today... Fuck.

So I was dumb and ran our car seat straps through the washer
Delicate cycle, air dry. But apparently this is a BAD THING. Resources online indicated that new straps could be purchased from the manufacturer for $12.50 but in an hour on the phone with Graco I learned that they don't sell straps for this (2017) model, and my only option is to replace the whole ($200) car seat. For a single 6-foot piece of polyester webbing. I feel my tendency towards caution is being exploited.
