According to a new report from the Center on Reinventing Public Education, accelerated learning simply requires more. More staff, more resources, more energy, more buy-in from teachers. @nadiatamezr @EdSurge https://t.co/h81iBWEa8d

Kids Need Hardship to Develop Resilience in the Teenage Years We can’t—and shouldn’t try to—shield our kids from all hardship, because we parents can’t be resilient for our kids. https://t.co/BrKcrK0YmY

Teach drew mustache on my son
My first grade son fell asleep during class, his teacher drew a mustache on him while he was asleep. Would you be upset? Should I report to the principal? We have had issues with the teacher totally not communicating with us about what is happening in the class and already have spoken with the principal twice about it. We don’t want to seem like completely overbearing parents.

5.5 month old - doesn’t laugh
Should we be concerned? Our pediatrician said we just need to find where she’s ticklish and isn’t phased at all but I’m starting to worry. She smiles, coos, babbles, blows raspberries, and will even make a “laughing face” but never makes the actual laughing sound. Motor wise she’s been ahead on all her milestones, rolling both ways by 12 weeks and just started crawling over the weekend. She’s a very happy baby and smiling all of the time, so why isn’t she laughing?

When did you start working out again PP? (Runners or equestrians in particular)
Hi parents! Just wondering for those of you who gave birth, when did you start working out again postpartum? I’m about 2 weeks out from an uncomplicated vaginal birth with minimal tearing. I’ve been walking daily since about 3 days PP and I’m feeling really good. I’d like to start some light core work in preparation for getting back to running and eventually horseback riding, but of course I don’t want to push it too much. Just wondering about others experiences! I will of course consult my doctor too.

Well I messed up
That moment when you ask your kids to stop being wild but they won’t listen so you say you don’t want to hear it when someone gets hurt. But then when they do get hurt it is a split eyebrow that bleeds everywhere. TLDR last night we had a party at the ER and my 2yo got three stitches.

Cooking with kids ideas? eager 8 year old!
Hi! My 8 year old stepson has developed an eagerness to cook tea for us all and I really want to help encourage and grow this for him! I asked him if he’d like to cook (with help) once a week and he said no, every night lol, but we are going to start with once a week. His first menu was - ‘pasta, sandwich or beans’. Has anyone got any ideas for easy to make recipes for 8 year olds? Or any good books/sites we could get ideas from? We are all vegetarian so we have to adapt things. Thankyou!

Elevator rides
At the hotel my 2 year old child started shouting he needed to go poo urgently and we rushed into the elevator. When we got to the floor he said he was ok. When we rode back to the lobby again he needed to poop again. 5 elevator rides later I realized this was a brilliant strategy to ride an elevator. As the doors opened a bunch of people watched me pull a small child off the elevator who was begging me to go back to the room because he didn’t want to poop his pants and bring him back to the restaurant. Just one of many reminders to be careful of the parents you judge.

Gifts for the 4 year old who has everything
Once again it's time to compile holiday wishlists. And once again I have a huge list for my oldest child, a decent list for my youngest and absolutely fucking nothing for my middle child. The thing is...he is a clone of his older brother. We already have everything he could ever want. A fully stocked play kitchen, trains, 10 billion cars/hot wheels tracks, puzzles and games, more books than our local library and a sinful Lego collection thanks to my oldest's hyperfixation. I think I made this exact post last year and got a few ideas. Honestly just throw anything at me.

What would you do with a day to yourself but no one to spend it with?
My husband offered to take the baby so I could get away and do something relaxing on Sunday. Issue is, I don’t really have anything to go do or anyone to hang out with (other than the one close mutual friend who visits us frequently anyway). It’s probably too late to book a spa or salon, and I honestly don’t want to get too spendy anyway. I had the thought that rather than be out of the house I just got some uninterrupted time gaming (which I used to do often), but I know that if I’m in the house I will want to respond to the baby and spend time with my husband. I could try and go to dinner or a movie, but the places I want to go, I would prefer to share with my husband anyway. So I need ideas. What would you do?

Baby was born 12 hours ago and hasn't cried once
I had my baby at 6:39am EST and he has not cried not once. I had at induction at 38w1d because of IUGR and baby came out 5lbs8oz. He is currently in NICU to help him transition but he's doing wonderful with his blood sugar, oxygen, and feedings. He just haven't cried at all even when they gave him his first needle. Is this unusual? I'm worried that if he never cries I won't ever be able to tell when something is wrong with him. They attempted to make him upset but couldn't get nothing out of him but a fart lol. He does be a tiny bit fussy but never cry. I'm praying that he's just super chill but the nurses said that is unusual. Anyone experienced anything similar?
