In one study, looping students with their teacher to the next grade level reduced suspensions by 10 percent, generating hope that looping could counteract over-discipline. @JessicaEBlake @Chalkbeat https://t.co/E5boipSa4Z

4yr not listening

So my 4yr old boy won't listen to anything we say and when we repeat ourselves still wont. The only time he will is if we yell at him to stop doing whatever he is doing. I hate the fact we have to resort to that, i dont like feeling like a shitty parent who feels like all i do is yell at my kid when he doesnt listen. And when we do yell he gets upset, and i get why, and we try to explain why we ended up yelling., qnd he tells us he will listen. And it breaks my heart. Is there anything i can do so that we dont have to resort to yelling?

Do any of the “natural ways to induce labor” strategies actually work?

A child my daughter is friends with just told me she "doesn't like brown people"

My daughter, 6yr old has a 7yr old friend who lives close to us. They are good friends who love to hang out and I really like this little girl. We live in the south where racism can be a problem, and it's obvious she doesn't come from the best situation. She lives with her grandparents and doesn't seem the best cared for. I invite her over as much as I can and try to have a good environment. I don't want my daughter to think that racism is okay or acceptable, but I also don't want her friend's grandparents to not allow her over. When she said that to me I just tried to explain that brown people are just like her, to which she shook her head. I asked her if she would still like me if I was brown, which made her very upset. It feels like a delicate situation and I'm not sure how to navigate it. One note, because I know reddit can be intense sometimes. Racism is a learned behavior, it is not this child's fault that she thinks like this.

It appears that $20 just changed the entire day.

In a super quick recap, that is talked about a bit more in my comment history, my young teen came out as gay a few years ago and came out as non-binary last year. It's been a struggle, mostly with changing pronouns, but also with their own self-acceptance and them feeling not supported (I'm trying my best but their dad is a bit more old fashioned and "doesn't understand" the non-binary, making it invalid in his eyes). Today I spent $20 on 2 items for my kid and the look on their face was worth millions. I got them boxer briefs and a new non-gendered Christmas tree topper; we've always used a pink one from their first Christmas but now have a silver star. They hugged me then ran off to text their friends about it. Money has been tight but this was worth every penny.

Are your kids allowed to see their grandparents? If so, how often?

Our (31f, 40m) kids aren’t allowed to see my parents but they’re allowed to see and stay the night with his mom that lives in another state. We’ve left our daughter with her for days while we went out of town. He despises my mom. My daughter(5) saw my mom twice in her life and neither my mom or dad has met our son(2). His mom was there during the last days of my pregnancy and when I went into labor. She was also there to see me bring the baby home. My parents experienced neither birth and I was barely allowed to send them pictures. This isn’t fair. The reasoning is because “they didn’t raise me right” but he wasn’t “raised right” either. His family is more messed up than mine. Anyhow, my daughter doesn’t know my parents or my side of the family. And my family is hurt about it. Talking to him about it is out of the question.(In a controlling relationship)Is this healthy for the kids?

LPT: The Whole Foods Hot Bar is an excellent place to go if you want an easy, healthy, varied solids meal for baby

Of course you still have to use your own judgement in terms of what selections are healthier than others but there’s always several options of veggies and protein! We go once a week for lunch and baby loves his little smorgasbord meal! Today he had grilled salmon, chicken wings, lemon roasted carrots, beets, zucchini/summer squash medley, smoked mozzarella pasta salad and green bean casserole (more the green beans part than the casserole).
