A series of Gallup surveys calls the decline in engagement from grades 5 through 12 an "engagement cliff." @nenagerman explains how experiential learning can break through the passivity that many students feel in the classroom. https://t.co/HFWDfe31VS

I hate baby led weaning
My LO is 6 months old and for the last few months I have been researching how to introduce solids. It seemed that BLW was the thing to do and I see all these photos and videos of babies chowing down on adult foods no problem. I tried to give my baby some of the foods they suggested (omelette style scrambled eggs in strips for example) and he gags a lot. I sit there watching him super anxiously as he gags on a few bites while mashing the rest into a pulp and spreading it everywhere. I have taken an infant CPR class but I don't want to use it. Did anyone find BLW also didn't work for them and if so, how long did you just do BM/formula + purees? It seems some people love BLW but I don't think it's right for my family.

It’s a difficult decision…
Do I risk waking the baby, who has finally fallen asleep on me after two interrupted naps, to go to the toilet or, do I wet myself?

What is the craziest tip you ever got from your family on how to deal with your newborn?
My mother keeps giving me tips on how to calm the baby down and what to do if the baby is crying. One of the craziest tip she gave me was that I should "wash babies' eyes" (it kinda translates badly from my native language) - meaning that I should lick my shirt a little bit and brush my one-month-old eyes with it. It should make my baby calm down and go to sleep. ( I have never tried it and I don't let my mother do it to my kids, I don't even let her be alone with my babies). I am writing this because it is just one of the nonsense tips I was given during this one-month period having a kid. Now I am starting to think that maybe I am doing something wrong, but my kids are calm, compared to others, they never cry for more than 5 minutes if they ever get fussy, they are always clean, fed, and taken care of. I know that I do everything right, but when my mother keeps giving me tips I feel very bad. It makes me hate my mother :(

Confession time…
I’m 18 months postpartum and I still wear my maternity shirts because I have a long torso and no other shirts have ever fit me as well. They’re starting to wear out and I just replaced them with more maternity shirts because I like the fit so much. I’m tall and fairly slender but not so toned in the stomach area, and now that I’m not pregnant they somehow have a slimming fit for me 😂

Random sleep tip: memorize your toddler's favorite book and recite it after lights out
My kid obviously likes books before bed, but the last book I "read" to her is always the same one and I do it after turning out the lights. By the time I'm done she's dead asleep. I've found this avoids her wanting to read books forever ("one more!") or getting distracted and wanting to get back up. I bet singing a lullaby accomplished the exact same thing, but I'm not much of a singer! My LO's fav is just one of those random ABC books, I think it helps that it rhymes: A is for apple that I like to bite. B is for bear who I cuddle at night. C is for car that drives around town. D is for ducklings covered in dowbn. etc. etc. Do you guys have any random little routines or tips for bedtime?

Gift idea for my friends who will soon have 2 under 2?
My best friend and her husband have a 14 month old son, and in March will welcome a new daughter. I’ve got gifts for both kids sorted, but I’m looking for ideas for Christmas gifts for the parents. Something that’s for them, and not for the kids. Previously I’d get them like a nice bottle of liquor or something, but since my friend can’t drink right now that doesn’t seem quite right. They’re also VERY covid cautious so gift certificates to restaurants and such are a no-go. What would you want?
