Sure, there are phone apps that can help with the prediction, but things can go south unexpectedly. We arrived at our sunrise spot with an overcast sky and were gutted because we were so sure there was going to be a good sunrise that day. We didn’t want to waste the trip and decided to focus on photographing other things instead.�•�Fortunately, the clouds magically started to clear when it was almost time for the sun to rise. Out came the sun, making for a perfect frame. ⁠

I have probably been to matanuskaglacier a dozen or so times, but all during summer months. Finally getting out here in winter was definitely a surprise. The features you are able to explore are beyond incredible and would be un-assessable in summer. I’ll be sharing more shots from this day soon. My husband and son found a herd of bighorn sheep about 20 minutes from our house on their way home from camping up in Rocky Mountain National Park. They called me and I hurried over to find them, but unfortunately they had moved up the cliffs quite a bit. I shot this with the Canon 7D Mark II with 400mm/2.8 fixed plus 1.4 extender - and it is still cropped 🙂 It was just really fun to see them so close to home. We also have an elk herd that is living one mile! from our house. We haven’t seen this before but figure they might have come down below the foothills because of our fires from fall. #naturefirst #livelifeoutsideco #bighorn
