Clearing away the cosmic dust 🧹 Looking beyond what’s visible to human eyes, astronomers discovered that this spiral galaxy — seen from the side — has an intensely bright center, obscured by dark dust. Galaxy NGC 7172 is known as a Seyfert galaxy, with an active center powered by matter accumulating onto a supermassive black hole. This image combines data from two sets of nasahubble observations, both of which were proposed to study nearby active galactic nuclei. The image also combines data from two instruments — Hubble’s Advanced Camera for Surveys and Wide Field Camera 3. Check out the link in our bio for more! #Hubble #Space #NASA #Galaxy

The Sounds of Silence (and Science) on Mars Listen to audio from @NASAPersevere. New research shows the speed of sound is slower on the Red Planet than on Earth, and at least this season, is very, very quiet: https://t.co/EaYIFgTngv https://t.co/kEdXSTjxtz

Remember Earendel, the farthest star we announced this week? Its distance is the greatest of any individual star seen to date, but it’s not the oldest. The oldest known star with a well-determined age is Methuselah, which still exists, while Earendel likely died long ago. https://t.co/3lFRhzPcqm

Sound on 🔊 The first study of recordings from @NASAPersevere shows the speed of sound is slower on Mars than on Earth – and that it’s different for low-pitched & high-pitched noises. The two sound speeds are an effect of the thin CO2 atmosphere. https://t.co/xUwb5gN0k8 https://t.co/Lyn9JsFFht

Observing Earendel can be thought of like looking at a very old photo of a young person who lived a long time ago, or hearing the oldest recording of a singer who is long gone. Learn more about Earendel: https://t.co/2ek5pFubO3 For more on Methuselah: https://t.co/KvzYUCGglO
