ππ Underwater volcanoes on Europa? There's evidence that this Jupiter moon may be warm enough inside to partially melt a rocky layer under its ocean, which could feed volcanoes on its seafloor. The upcoming @EuropaClipper may shed light on the findings. https://t.co/N3M8SPynWt https://t.co/fRyXbhgsXl

On this day in 1953, the YF-100A, the prototype for the F-100 Super Sabre, flew for the first time. The F-100 was the first fighter capable of supersonic speed in level flight. We have a F-100D on display at the Udvar-Hazy Center: https://t.co/Hcy939pNZN https://t.co/mqp98kCLvm

question
I don't really know if this is the place for science questions or just pictures of the night sky, but ill give it a shot. I've always been told the reason we see a half-moon is because the earth is in between the moon and the sun, therefore the earth's shadow covers up half of the moon. but a couple of days ago it got me thinking while I was out for a walk on a sunny day in southern Norway if that has anything to do with what I saw. I guess I haven't really paid attention to the sun and moon just on regular days before but I definitely did so then. the point is that I could see a 30-40% moon in the sky while still seeing the sun, this was about 6 pm and the sun was relatively high up from the horizon as the moon. my question is, how come we see a half-moon when the earth isn't even in between the sun and the moon, how can the earth's shadow cover up over half the moon when it's still about 4 hours to sunset. thanks:)

On-pad test-firings used to be part of every SpaceX launch. With the Falcon 9 launch rate at nearly one mission per week this year, SpaceX has cut the number of test-firings. Less than half of the Falcon 9 flights in 2021 have had a static fire test. https://t.co/bTOgj5APuv https://t.co/POxbp3mXuA
