The only picture of Venus Surface taken by Soviet Venera Probe in 1981. It returned images during the 65 minutes of operation on the surface. The sun was near zenith during that time, and the lighting was similar to that on Earth on an overcast summer day....!

On this day in 1930, astronaut John Young was born. Young flew in space six times (twice each on Gemini, Apollo, and Space Shuttle missions), and served as an astronaut longer than anyone to date: 42 years (1962-2004). https://t.co/db1ELd3aX8 https://t.co/P9xuuRy7Y7

Today we honor the legacy of astronaut John Young on his birthday. John completed test pilot training in 1959 and worked on Crusader and Phantom fighter jets in the US Navy. He also set the world time-to-climb records to 3,000-meter and 25,000-meter altitudes in the Phantom. https://t.co/4s6232cPqE
