The FDA gets it right for once, siding against the dairy industry against its ridiculous effort to ban terms like "soy milk" and "almond milk" from packaging. They actually gave this matter some careful thinking! A few comments in my ๐งตhttps://t.co/oKSkFLYVLP

It's refreshing to see clear thinking & a lack of corruption from government where plant-based vs. omnivorous food regs are concerned. This victory merits celebration and a worthy next step is to seek to extend this thinking to vegan cheese, sour cream & yogurt brands. END

Huzzah! What a momentous win over a bad-faith argument that's been stewing for more than a decade. My advice to every vegan milk brand: The enemy has been routed so strike the terms "Soy Beverage" or "Oat Beverage" from your packaging immediately to seize this territory.

I also don't object to the FDA's guidance that products labeled almond milk ought to disclose that they are nutritionally inferior to cow's milk (and soy milk) at least where protein is concerned. Consumers ARE rightfully confused about the nutrient density of these foods.

The FDA continues: "The comments and information we reviewed indicate that consumers understand plant-based milk alternatives to be different products than milk. [C]onsumers, generally, do not mistake plant-based milk alternatives for milk."

Excellent reporting in the above article. The money quote from the FDA: ""Although many plant-based milk alternatives are labeled with names that bear the term 'milk'(e.g., 'soy milk'), they do not purport to be nor are they represented as milkโฆ"
