If you stretch your hamstrings a LOT, but still feel tight on a daily basis, your limiting factor might actually be the way your nerves glide! Adding nerve glides to her movement practice completely shifted the feeling of stiffness in her hamstrings. @elenashapeshifts #yoga https://t.co/cDjD35GRGd

I'm avoiding yoga because I have gained a lot of weight and because of that I have lost a lot of my ability in yoga.
I've gone from a 12 to a 20 and right now yoga is just a reminder of everything I've lost with the weight I've gained. I can't twist as far, I can't hop from down dog to forward fold...also just stepping to the front is hard with my belly in the way. I can hardly clasp my hands together to hug my knees to my chest. Im posting this to maybe feel less alone or make someone else feel less alone. Please don't suggest a diet or weight loss to me.

Is the average yogi intimidated by Ashtanga? Or do they not know what it is?
I have been practicing Ashtanga for about a year now (all led classes) and love it. The repetition allows me to get into a flow that I don't feel in other yoga classes and I feel much more progression over time. However, I notice that attendance for the Ashtanga classes at my gym is very low. The instructor is awesome, does adjustments, and is clearly deeply knowledgeable, so I don't think its her that's causing the low attendance. So I'm wondering if it is just because the average yogi doesn't know what to expect, or perhaps just doesn't like the style. I guess I'm asking about its reputation?

Sharp pain in my upper back after aerial yoga
I went to a beginner aerial yoga class yesterday and it was pretty clear that almost the entire class ( except me and my friend) were actually advanced. As a result, the instructor started off with intense poses and stretching which I clearly wasn’t ready for. Today I woke up with a sharp pain in my upper back that intensifies when I squeeze my back muscles towards the spine. Any idea what I can do ? How long can I expect this pain to last?

Hi! I am a self-taught yogi who has been practicing almost daily for 7 years. I was wondering: why does each side of my body still feel so different in specific poses?
More specifically: 8 angle arm balance is super easy to do on the right side but I struggle so hard on the left side. Anyone else relate?

Where do I start? I am so sad without yoga. How often to practice? Follow a program? I'm a long-time lurker and so thank you all for the wise sharing and help of all.
