I haven’t been to yoga in over a month and …

I went today and it was ok. I always get into my head about how much further behind I will be because I skipped so much. I was in a funk, dealing with a breakup, and turbulent friendship drama. All of those things in my personal life plus my work being challenging and a profession I have less than a year experience in has been a lot on me and my psyche. So much more stuff outside of these things mentioned have added to my stress and there have been weeks where I didn’t walk outside. Something about today made me get up and join a class. I feel emotionally and physically lighter after yoga. It doesn’t make all my problems go away but gives me more space to deal with them. It was the medicine I needed. I hope ppl find the courage to continue the practice and pick it up again even if they took time off. I started yoga last summer and I have made so much progress since then. I feel deep down this is a practice I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Am I the only one that dislikes ending their practice in shavasana?

I feel like I'm definitely in the minority, but I honestly hate ending my yoga session in shavasana. I took a guided class for the first time in a while this week, and I felt *so* energized throughout I felt like I could fly off the mat and get a ton of stuff done. Then, she ended with shavasana and I just felt like I deflated. I hate just lying there with my eyes closed, it's the opposite of relaxing for me because I feel like all the energy I'd built up during practice just drains away and it frustrates me. I'm sure it's a 'me' thing, and I could, and probably should, learn to appreciate slowing down and taking the time to just breathe and be in the moment. So in the spirit of learning, has anyone had a similar experience and overcome it? Learn to either embrace shavasana or at least not let it drain the energy you get from practice?

Yogi flight school reviews?

I'm practicing regularly at a studio with a lot of Anusara trained teachers, and it's common for handstand to be integrated into classes. Unfortunately, there is limited time to spend with each student, and I'm nowhere near being able to even get into L handstand against the wall. I've been getting ads for yogi flight school and it looks promising, as this is something I'd really love to work on in a more targeted way. If you've used yogi flight school, what was your experience using it? Did you do the pre-recorded classes or zoom? Is it worth getting the whole package vs buying just the arm balance + handstand modules?

Challenging Students

Hello! I’m sure this has been addressed before, but I’m looking for advice on how to handle challenging students. I make it very clear that if you’re running late to class, you need to wait to join us until we’re done with our beginning mediation/pranayama practice. If you can’t stay for savasana, leave before we get into the pose, not during. Also, no phones, but I will still hear them go off. I’ve even had people scrolling during practice!! My students have gotten better at most of this, but a few continue to be disruptive. The worst thing is that one of my students doesn’t even follow along with class. They just do their own thing and I find it very distracting. I am very lenient about taking a break in balasana and modifying poses when needed, but this person is on a whole other level. Suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

What to expect from 200hr yoga TT

I am 50 and after 15 years of practicing yoga on and off with the last 2 years being consistently on at the studio where I'll be taking the training I have decided to invest the time and money to take the 200hr yoga teacher training. I'm super excited! For those who have taken the training what is it like? My training will be 1 weekend a month for 7 months. Did you have a lot of reading and studying to do? Did your class days consist of several hours of yoga poses? Training starts in 2 weeks and I'm just excited to hear how the training went for others. Thank you!

Yoga Book Recommendations

Hello! I’m a 25M and been learning a lot about yoga and practicing most days on my own since lockdown. I’ve become extremely fascinated and plan to learn to teach at some point but Id love to continue studying on my own for a little. I’ve just completed the wisdom of yoga, and am looking for a few good book recommendations. Maybe something that teaches many asanas with explanations around each one. Please drop all recommendations and tell me why you recommend! 🙌 Thank you all in advance 🙂

Back injury from yoga!?

Last Monday morning I did a yoga practice I’ve done several times before. It has a few poses that are more advanced than I can do, but I just either did them to my level and a couple I just waited for the next pose. I felt great through the whole practice. This was a practice from Alo Moves. By the time I got into the shower a few minutes later, my low back was aching a bit, but later it was full blown agony. I believe the term used is “threw my back out”. I’ve never had this happen to my back and I’ve been laid up for 5 days. From YOGA! Has anyone ever had an experience like this? Besides being in so much pain I’ve cried and almost puked once, I’m just so incredibly surprised. Yoga is supposed to help me avoid this stuff. I’ve been doing it regularly for 4 years and the only injuries I’ve had is my elbows aching while learning the proper way to chaturanga.

Has anyone tried Asana Rebel App?

I keep getting ads for this app. It looks like a good one to try for my home work outs. Has anyone purchased and used this?

How do I find a safe and mentally stable yoga teacher?

After reading some experiences on here I’m. I’ve not done any yoga classes for 3 years for a number of reasons. I’ve started doing some at home. Some of the instructors on here sound like narcissists void of empathy. And some just flat out unsafe. A few I’ve read about tend to be owners. After leaving an abusive situation this is not something I want to deal with. I can research about credentials of their training (though tips are welcome) but are there red flags to watch out for of someone I should think twice about or also indications of a skilled and good teacher? How many classes do you attend before you know if it’s a good fit for you?

Yoga Sutras commentary

Hello friends!! I just finished reading the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. This particular book was translated by the Reverend Jaganath Carrera. I know there are translations and commentaries on the Sutras. I am looking for suggestions as to which one to tackle. What have you fellow yogi's got?
