Yoga for grief and depression?
Are there any poses or flows that are good for grief and depression? My dog passed away last month at the age of 17 and I just cant stop crying about losing him

Masking for covid safety in a yoga class?
Hey I really want to do yoga classes, but due to having friends suffering from long covid I still often mask in group settings with an N95. While I personally am not physically bothered by wearing masks, sometimes I get pushback and judgment from people. I also had to take a step back from my own spiritual community at the height of covid because so many people were really judgmental and even abrasive to anyone who chose to take precautions or try to be careful. This makes me nervous to try yoga tbh. So basically, my question is, do people wear masks in yoga classes sometimes? Do you think it would get pushback? I may contact a yoga place and ask to feel it out as well. As much as I want to do yoga I also am not in a place mentally where I want to deal with people giving me a hard time for this. Thank you!!

Coming to class to do your own workout.
Am I the only one who gets irrationally upset when people come to a yoga class and just do their own thing? I was at a CorePower hot yoga sculpt class this weekend and the instructor was great and the class was very difficult. However in the front row, near the middle of the room, there was a woman who just followed her own agenda the entire class. I understand you may need to modify or swap out a position if it’s just too much for your body or whatever. But, to come to class and plop down front and center and make no attempt to follow the class at all drives me nuts and I see it happen a lot at hot yoga studios. It’s very distracting and takes away from other student’s practice. My personal theory is these people are just using the studio for their heated rooms. Ugh, thanks for reading my rant!

Just signed up!
Hi everyone, Major lurker here. Went to several yoga classes some years ago, then COVID happened and yeah. I’ve been slowly losing control of my body since, putting on a few pounds, wfh sitting all day long, and I’ve been having some long term Achilles, lower back, and hamstring issues. All this has led to depression. This sub inspired me to jump back in and give yoga another chance. Lucky for me, all I needed was to read all your posts to inspire me to sign up for a class this Saturday. Questions about etiquette: 1. Are socks frowned upon? 2. Should I talk to the instructor prior to the class? I don’t want to look stupid or as if im not trying in some poses due to limitations. 3. Any prep I can do before Saturday? I plan on watching YouTube videos to remember the names/poses. Any advice or words of encouragement welcomed, im so damn nervous for no reason!

Pain in glute/upper ham from splits which only gets worse after wide legged folds (probably not yoga butt)
inb4 I’ll set an appointment with my physio tomorrow but I’m just curious if somebody had a similar injury and could tell me which asanas they avoided as well as how long it healed. Last week I had to take a week of the gym due to disc issues. I think that the lack of my usual tendon work might have caused an injury during my regular hanumanasana practice. I don’t think it’s yoga butt as the pain went away the next day and I went to a class 2 days later and had no pain whatsoever during forward folds etc. Zero discomfort. Today the pain flared up randomly in a seated wide legged fold, I wasn’t even feeling it before. I’m afraid I choose the wrong practice (static yoga with no warmup, how dumb of me ik) and the tendon simply wasn’t warm enough. I think I might have pulled some hip tendon, but not as intense as with yoga butt? Is it even possible? The pain gets better when squeezing glutes.

Best yoga apps?
Hi everyone! I’ve been really enjoying yoga tutorials on YouTube and was thinking about getting a yoga app, but are there additional benefits to using an app rather than just using free YouTube videos? Are there specific apps anyone would recommend? I’m looking for an inexpensive option as I’m on a low wage. I’ve really enjoyed Jessica Richburg on YouTube so if anyone has tried her app and has some feedback that would be great! I’m UK based in case that matters

How non-slip is the Lululemon mat towel?
Just wondering because I want to use this as my traveling mat to practice on. I don’t want to fold my yoga mat up to pack into my suitcase, which could cause tears/dents. I also don’t want to be rolling it up and slinging it across my body for a carry on item on my plane ride. Any recommendations?

Grateful for traditionalists
In a world overrun with power yoga, hot yoga, yoga with beer, wine, goats, cats, chocolate, etc I am profoundly grateful that the most popular studio in my area and the one that has been business the longest (over 30 years) is one that does not glom onto fads and reduce the practice to what is marketable to the masses.

Goals
My coach asked me what my goals were, hadn’t really thought about it. I told her two hundred classes. I thought I should have a better goal than that. I’m going to commit to this yoga thing for a year try and keep my same pace. I’m going to try and get to a thousand classes in the year.

What’s the secret to child’s pose
Recently started doing Corepower yoga, initially for a free week and now for the full month. I’ve completed 10 classes, have been enjoying it, and feel myself getting better. However, I can’t seem to get child’s pose right. It always feel like the inner parts of my hip (close to my groin area) are under too much stress to sink low, definitely not low enough to be truly sitting on my heels. I have shorter legs and feel like the sheer length might be the issue. I’ve also considered it might just be weak pelvic floor muscles. Has anyone else had this issue? Any insight you can provide would be appreciated!
