Much like the human fingerprint, tiger stripes are unique to each individual! To identify tigers, scientists set up staggered camera traps that snap photos of each side of the tiger. With this method, they can properly identify individuals and properly count the population in certain areas. Counting tigers and determining where they live is a critical step in monitoring the progress we are making to protect the species! Beautiful photo by akshayrajputphotography #wildlifeplanet

Why Some Jaguars are black? Melanistic or all black jaguars occur due to a genetic mutation. This mutation causes the skin and fur to contain larger amounts of a dark pigment. These types of jaguars are found in rainforests because it is easier for them to blend into the dark shadows of the trees. Photo by camwhitnall #Wildlifeowners

Did you know that less than 2% of polar bear hunts are successful? Although about half of a polar bear’s life is spent hunting for food, their hunts are rarely successful. Polar bears main prey consists of ringed seals and bearded seals, though they will also scavenge carcasses or settle for small mammals, birds, eggs and vegetation. Beautiful photo by marselvanoosten #WildlifePlanet

Heartly, or "baby shark" as her caregivers fondly refer to her as, is a senior gal who is full of life and wants nothing more than to be in your lap. She is curious about her surroundings, loves to go on walks and is good with dogs. Adopt her today: https://t.co/mVA5Xwu1hD ^AT https://t.co/EpsInEOetm

Did you know one of the easiest ways you can help #SaveThemAll and refuse to support #puppymills is by choosing to adopt instead of purchasing a pet? ^ET https://t.co/8LUVhfBUQ3

It's the last week of #WhyILoveNature, and we're looking to see more of your captured moments. This week, share your pictures of wildlife using #WhyILoveNature and tagging world_wildlife. Be sure to let us know why you love mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, insects, and amphibians! We will be looking to share some of our favorite posts. Animals around the world are essential to the balance of nature. They are a source of inspiration and nurture a sense of wonder. Yet, at the same time, we are losing our natural world at an alarming rate and the actions we take next will make a world of difference. It’s our choice: Love it or lose it.

"There is no link between the size of the pet and the size of a problem. If anything, small dogs tend to be more vocal. Similarly, breed ... has zero to do with being a problem or not." Thank you for your support of #Illinois SB 154, @stevedalepets: https://t.co/eXEDRSviUL ^ET

In the loving company of Arya, Zara’s psychological healing has been tremendous and the duo is never spotted apart. Zara never leaves Arya’s side, even during treatment, always comforting her with affectionate trunk touching and rumbling out to her in reassurance.  Their bond is steadily growing stronger as observed by our elephant care staff. Zara leads the way during their daily walks and pauses every once in a while to wait for Arya, who can be seen curiously exploring her surroundings, foraging on fresh green patches and even munching on tender tree branches. . . . . . . . . . . . . . #Elephants #Elephant #Herd #Rescue #Saveelephants #Conservation #Protection #wildlifesos #wildlifeconservation #wildlifeprotection #postoftheday #elephantsofinstagram #igers #rehabilitation #indianwildlife #wildlifeindia #nature #happy #photography #wildliferescue #photooftheday
