Sánchez’s symbolic landscapes have made him one of the most important living Cuban artists. Waterfalls, lagoons, palm trees, and small human figures, all represent wider issues of the environment, humankind's insignificance, and inner peace. This is the last week to see Mira Schor’s incredible exhibition “Tipping Point”! The gallery will be all open all week. “We are a part of history in the moment, we study it, and yet we will never know if our participation continues after we are gone. In ‘Painting History Painting’ Schor addresses this continuum. An image of a naked woman bends over a book, breasts hanging down. The word ‘history’ is written upside down. The viewer can easily read it, but the figure, who is both making and eyeing it, cannot. Constructed of a single line of red paint and starting at the woman’s mouth, the word emerges on the canvas and finishes in the woman’s vagina. Sky Arts has appointed Anish Kapoor to its new Sky Arts Ambassador program, which tasks five leading artists with nurturing a new generation of talent across the UK. As the visual arts Ambassador, Kapoor will award three artists a sum of £30,000 per year in a commitment to make the arts more accessible. Of the grant, Kapoor stated, ‘At a time when the arts are under threat from poor national strategy and cultural institutions globally are suffering as a result of the pandemic, it is vital to publicly demonstrate our commitment to artists and arts organizations. …I hope to help younger artists find a platform to challenge and inspire us to new content, meaning and poetic ambition.’ Learn more via the link in our stories. dirty_corner #AnishKapoor #SkyArtsAmbassadors
