Tom Moore, the 100-year-old World War II veteran whose efforts to raise millions for the UK's National Health Service made him a universally adored icon during the first wave of the Covid-19 outbreak, has died in the hospital after himself contracting the disease, his family said Tuesday. "The last year of our father's life was nothing short of remarkable. He was rejuvenated and experienced things he'd only ever dreamed of," the family said in a statement to PA Media. "Whilst he'd been in so many hearts for just a short time, he was an incredible father and grandfather, and he will stay alive in our hearts forever." (📸: Chris Jackson/Getty Images)

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell on Monday issued a tacit rebuke of controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. "Loony lies and conspiracy theories are cancer for the Republican Party and our country," McConnell said. "Somebody who's suggested that perhaps no airplane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that horrifying school shootings were pre-staged, and that the Clintons crashed JFK Jr.'s airplane is not living in reality. This has nothing to do with the challenges facing American families or the robust debates on substance that can strengthen our party." While McConnell did not name Greene directly, his statement stands as a scathing rebuke of the freshman Republican House member.

On her 100th birthday, Mildred Grassman got flowers, candy, money — and her second shot of the Covid-19 vaccine. It means that eventually, Grassman, who lives in an independent living facility in Evansville, Indiana, will be able to get back to what she loves: playing cards and bingo and being with her friends. "She's very social," her daughter, Mary Carl, said of Grassman. "She's never met a stranger." Grassman is among the more than 5.6 million Americans who have been fully vaccinated, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data. More than 25 million have received at least one vaccine shot, with most states aiming to immunize the elderly and others who are most vulnerable. Tap the link in our bio to learn more. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made the statement on Instagram Live, which appeared to be one of the first times she has spoken in public about being a survivor, in contextualizing her trauma in the wake of the insurrection at the US Capitol last month. The New York Democrat went through a detailed account of her day on January 6, recounting her experience during the riot and saying she thought she was going to die. "The reason I say this and the reason I'm getting emotional in this moment is because these folks who tell us to move on, that it's not a big deal, that we should forget what's happened, or even telling us to apologize. These are the same tactics of abusers. And, um, I'm a survivor of sexual assault," Ocasio-Cortez said. The congresswoman did not share details of the assault. Isabela Medina, a healthy 25-year-old, waited at a grocery store pharmacy until the day's appointments were done, and the pharmacy offered up eight leftover vaccines. She gleefully claimed one. Medina and other “vaccine hunters” see it as a win-win: They get vaccinated and a precious dose of the Covid-19 vaccine doesn't end up in the trash. But their gain is also a symptom of a lack of coordination in the US vaccination plan. Tap the link in our bio for more on this trend. (📸: Mario Tama/Getty Images)
