This is the final weekend to see works by Abraham Cruzvillegas in 'Abundant Futures in Troubled Times,' on view through Sunday, March 5, at Centro de Creación Contemporánea de Andalucía (C3A) in Córdoba, Spain. The exhibition places a wealth of artistic visions from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary Collection (TBA21) into conversation, including five works by Cruzvillegas commissioned or produced by the foundation. Photos: Roberto Ruiz c3a_andalucia tba_21 autoconstruido #AbrahamCruzvillegas#AbundantFuturesinTroubledTimes #CentrodeCreaciónContemporáneadeAndalucía #C3A #ThyssenBornemiszaArtContemporaryCollection #TBA21

No, these aren’t screenshots of an old Playstation game from the ‘90s. These are paintings by Canadian artist Alex Colville, all made between the 1950s and 1970s. Though he had no way of knowing, his style seemed to have predicted the aesthetic of ‘90s video games. The lack of texture or weight to the limbs of the figures make them seem like 3D digital objects, the sparse backgrounds that look like they’re still rendering, and lack of any obvious light source all seem to give an uncanny valley effect. Dog and Bridge, 1976 To Prince Edward Island, 1965 Cattle Show, 1955 Four Figures on Wharf (detail), 1952 Church and Horse, 1964 January, 1971 #alexcolville
