Mrityu, daschundtof (me), digital painting, 2023
Mrityu, the reluctant goddess of death. Sometimes, the start of a workweek can feel like a daunting Monday blues situation. But it made me reflect on how even deities face their own struggles. I had always believed Yama was the god of death, until I discovered the tale of Mrityu. Legend has it that she was born from Brahma's frown, as he searched for a solution to the overcrowding of Earth. Despite knowing her purpose, she refused to accept her role. Her tears, shed in sorrow, transformed into diseases, while her eyes turned red from crying. Mrityu prayed and meditated fervently, pleading the gods to release her from this burdensome chore. Only when she realized that death led to rebirth, she reluctantly embraced her duty. Let us remember that even in the face of difficult tasks, there is strength and growth to be found.
