Under the table

Why would anyone pay an employee under the table? Even though they save on employer tax… They won’t get a deduction…. Which may result in more tax savings. Aside from hiring an illegal worker, I don’t see the benefit. Any clarity would help! Thanks in advance!

Employee vs Independent Contractor

I am in the residential solar industry, and I have quite a few independent contractors working for me, doing both canvassing and selling. I want to hire on workers to only canvass for me, and this is where I am unsure of what to do. If these canvassers are hired on as employees, would I be allowed to pay them commissions and not hourly/salary? Or would I be required to pay them at least the minimum wage in the state that I conduct business in? I know that outside salespeople are exempt from FLSA, but I don't know if canvassers fit into that because they aren't technically selling, but they are setting up sales for my Closers to take care of.

Teeth Brushing made fun Buisness Idea

Call me crazy or a genius either way hear me out. What's the one thing kids hated growing up? Brushing teeth. So what if there was a headset that you wore and it had a VR game where you shoot monsters but the monsters correspond to plague buildup in your mouth. Then either a automatic toothbrush with some type of tracking technology or laser or something cleans the area in your mouth. The kids would do it for the normal 2 minutes every morning and night. It would take those 2 minutes to complete the "level" when the monsters were defeated they would know that they were done brushing. I dont even know if current technology could even achieve this or how it would work but just wondering what yall would think about this lol

What sort of novelty goods would you buy from foreign countries?

Thinking about starting this business that exports novelty cultural goods to foreign markets like the US and Europe. Thinking mostly about selling on Amazon. Is this a good idea? If you were the target customer of this sort of thing, what purpose would you consider buying these products for? Decoration (idols, statues etc.)? Functionality? Or something else?

Creating a "job"

If I go around town with a few flyers stating that I can decorate a space in your home for just $50-$100 just to get started in my "non-existent" business of trying to become an interior designer, what kind of problems do I run into as far as the 2020 Karen's kids are selling lemonade without a license to do so?

Doing consulting work for the first time, is it better to just accept payment as an individual or to form a single member LLC? [Florida]

This is my first go at this consulting thing, I have a client who I believe will be long term. I am considering accepting payments for my work as an individual or forming an single member LLC. Has anyone been in a similar situation and could offer insights or pros/cons for the two options? If LLC is the better way to go, what should I know beforehand?

How do I pay myself as a partner in an LLC?

We’ve been in business for about a year now, and our revenue is set to triple what we did last year. Right now I’m paying myself via account transfers. But I need to qualify for a mortgage in the next couple of years, and I’m not really sure how the approval process works. Can I get a mortgage based on bank statements? Or should I set up paperwork for a W-2 via ADP or quickbooks? Thanks

Becoming a partner in a small business

Sorry for the long post..Hi everyone just recently started lurking in the sub as I have really started to think about having a small business. Here is my current predicament. I have been unemployed for almost a year(by choice) I still am unsure as to what I want to do, however having my own business has been a goal of mine for years. Heres my question There is an comic book/anime store in my local shopping center that I frequent often, I love the place, the atmosphere and the people. I recently asked if they were open to adding a partner (my wife and I). The manager who’s boyfriend is a partner said we should spend a day there and really see the other side of the business not as a customer. As I plan to do this what other things should I look for or ask about to see if this could be a fit and if they would even want me as a partner. Thanks in advance for any help

Power washing

Anyone have any experience with this kind of business? In your opinion, is this an in demand service? Would door to door sales be appropriate for this?

Best one-stop shop for simple website design, hosting, and email?

I saw on this sub some trash talking about goDaddy, good things about Google and square space. I kind of like the idea of Zoho since it has so many other interactive apps. Business is one-person consulting for now and website is just informational, no e-commerce. Thanks.

For an anonymous out of state LLC registered to do business in New Jersey, can you see who is listed as the owner?

If an LLC is formed in another state and is anonymous (owner isn’t listed, only the Organizer), and registers to do business in New Jersey, it needs to list an Owner/Partner/Responsible Officer. Is that Owner searchable on the NJ gov portal website when the foreign LLC is looked up? Also, does the state govt verify who exactly this Owner is by contacting them after the LLC registers to do business in New Jersey?

Best ways to promote an online language course website

I'm thinking about starting a website to teach Chinese to English speakers. I'm confident in building the website and creating content, but I'm unsure about the best way to promote my course. Is it better to have my own website rather than using platforms like Udemy? Should I focus on building a social media presence first? Any advice on how to promote and grow this type of business would be very helpful!

Suggestions for outsourced HR support in California?

I currently have 30 employees (3 full time, the rest part time) on payroll, next year I'm looking at about 70. My payroll/benefits are taken care of through Gusto, but now I'm looking for someone who can just help me tighten up the ship with compliance, improving employment contracts etc. Would love to hear if anyone here has any recommendations for HR firms or agencies they've worked with in the past for this kind of thing.

Homebase and QuickBooks?

We are debating using Homebase but are concerned with the QuickBooks integration. Our employees work different jobs and currently when info is sent to QB the hours worked are affiliated with the job # which is perfect when we invoice our clients. However, I am concerned if we use Homebase for payroll that it will not send that information and it will create more work. Any advice?
