Letting my teen son fail is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done

We have tried every intervention except sending him to military school. He just won’t put in the effort. He will have to do Sumer school and thus forfeit the one activity he loves and the only thing he really likes about school. He has adhd but won’t do meds. He’s failing math and refuses a tutor or to even have us help him. He says everything is fine, but he has an F and with 7 weeks to go, the writing is on the wall. I can’t imagine what it’s like for him. I have to accept that this is how he is, but I would be lying if I said it didn’t make me sad to my core.

Our high-school’s shooter drills are so traumatic that students are having panic attacks.

Today they had to call EMS for panic attack medical support after the drill because the new process uses simulated audio gunfire and “shooters” trying to break into locked classrooms. An entire generation of kids are developing PTSD from these exercises and it’s infuriating.

What did your child do today that made your day?

Let's share some joy. For me, my parents came back from their week long vacation today (we live in a joint family) and the moment my 14 month son saw them started screaming dada (grandfather in my language) and waddled towards him from across the living room. My parents hadn't seen him walk properly before they left. The smile and adoration on their faces and the joy on my sons face absolutely made my day.

Christ, I hate boomers

As I was leaving the grocery store just now, a boomer who felt the world needed to be blessed with her opinion was yelling at a young mother and her baby outside the store. From the looks of things, the mother (who couldn’t have been over 20) was probably asking for money. Boomer heifer (with a cart full of groceries) yelled “I’m not giving you money! Babies are expensive! Just keep your legs shut!” I was honestly too stunned to confront the bitch. Never mind that we’re in one of the harshest states for abortion access, with one of the highest maternal and child mortality rates in the country.

Moms who are breastfeeding and indulge in alcohol - let’s chat!

**NO JUDGEMENT ZONE** What are your self-imposed rules? What have docs and nurses told you about breastfeeding and drinking alcohol? Last but definitely not least, what’s your favorite drink?! Cheers to being great, responsible moms who are trying to get some semblance of a social life back!

Breastfeeding is a bitch

Dear God breast-feeding is so much harder than I thought it was going to be. I'll think I have the hang of it, and then for the past few days it seems like it's been impossible to feed her enough like I'll feed her for two hours straight, three hours straight, four hours straight, and she still showing hunger cues. I can't get the positioning right, I can't get the latching right, there's no real point to this other than holy shit this is hard.

I had no idea I had to sterilize bottles and pacifiers etc

And now I’m stressing. I went from breastfeeding to exclusively pumping and have been just washing bottles with soap and water. Honestly not even using hot water because I didn’t like the idea of plastic and hot water leaching chemicals. Now I feel like an idiot not knowing about sterilizing everything. Ughh I hope she’s ok. 😭 Just what I needed on top of being so sleep deprived

My mom thinks my 2 months old shots are going to give him autism.

We just had our little guys 2 month appointment yesterday and got his first set of vaccines. I was updating my mom today and letting her know his measurements and how he was doing after his shots etc. She then replies with “I would have researched the hell out of that, they are giving all these new shots that give newborns autism yada yada.” So now I went from hanging out all chill taking care of my son while my wife takes a nap to having anxiety (my mom likes to add stress/anxiety to our lives) over not doing enough research etc. We’ve been so tired with a newborn and I just figure me Google searching some stuff before appointment is not gonna make me smarter than a doctor. So we went with what they recommended. So what do you guys think? Is my mom being a Jenny McCarthy or is there some validity to what she saying? Is their certain newborn shots that have high risk and you guys opted out of? Thanks so much.

Age for baby equipment

I’m a first time mom and have never spent much time around babies. What age do babies start using walkers, johnny jumpers, etc? My LO will be 5 mos. in 5 days and I’m trying to get an idea for when we can start introducing him to new equipment.

I just overheard my father in law tell my 5 year old it’s good she isn’t fat.

This isn’t the first time I heard him speak like this, seems like he is always commenting on people’s appearances. “Ohhhh your wearing a skirt how pretty” “ooohhh you lost the baby weight thats good” Like wtf is up with boomers!?

Finally medicated updated

I am day 3 of taking Adderall. I feel like what I imagine is 'normal'. My thoughts are still my thoughts, just not a mile a minute. I can actual initiate a task and complete it. I am not binge eating. My anxiety is the best it's ever been. I don't feel like I'm in this battle with myself to just be alive and do regular daily living tasks. My mom has been a big support encouraging me to keep trying different things to find something that would help me. I think it's safe to say that for right now I am cautious but hopeful.

Babbling - when did your kid start the goo ga da da sounds?

The internet is all over the place with this milestone of when sounds become consonants or “goo goo da da” etc. When did your kid do this? What about repetitive da da da etc. My 7 month old makes tons of sounds but nothing like goo or ga. More different shrieks or random sounds at different pitches/tones.

Pretty sure I have hg 🥲

I already have an appointment and I’m doing All The Things (ginger, eating crackers and ginger) so I’m not looking for medical advice. Just need to vent since no one irl knows I’m pregnant yet except my husband, who I’m pretty sure is sick of hearing me complain. I’ve been throwing up for almost 3 weeks. I’m only eating once a day and throwing most of it up. Luckily I can keep water and liquids down, and I’m peeing normally, so I don’t think I’m in danger of being dehydrated. I miss liking food. I’m usually a foodie kind of person. Thai food, Indian food, southern food. There is so much good food where I live and I can’t eat anything right now! I hope this passes soon. I’m about 8 weeks.

What is a deadbeat?

A mom who sees her kid Friday night-Sunday night every other week, no visits or calls or video chats in between her weekends. Sometimes she pays child support. Would you consider this a deadbeat parent or no?
