American buyers are house hunting in France, motivated by a strong dollar and spare cash. Searches for French properties by US-based buyers jumped 37% in the first five months of 2022 compared to the same period last year, according to real estate company Knight Frank, with Paris, Provence, the French Riviera and southwest France among the most sought-after areas. Contributing factors to Americans’ growing interest are the favorable dollar-to-euro exchange rate, the build-up of pandemic-related savings and the return of travel after two years of closed borders, Knight Frank said. The weaker euro alone means it’s 16% cheaper for Americans to buy property in Europe compared to a year ago. Tap the link in bio for the full story.

● In the ongoing struggle between workers who want flexibility and bosses who are pushing for a return to the office, an impending recession could shift the balance of power. ● The strong job market in the pandemic has meant that employees have felt empowered to ask for perks or leave their jobs for better offers. New data from the World Travel and Tourism Council, collected in partnership with ForwardKeys, shows that airline bookings to the US spiked by 93% since the June 12 policy change, compared with the same period the year before. “It’s a huge sign of the pent-up demand that exists,” explains Julia Simpson, WTTC president and chief executive officer, “as well as the massive dampening effect that the testing requirement has had on travelers who have been wanting to go to the US.” But there’s a catch: Visitor spending is taking longer to recover than visitor arrivals. In 2019 international tourism directly and indirectly brought $191 billion to the American economy—a number that tumbled by 80% in 2020 and only recovered by about one percent in 2021, according to Simpson. Massive piles of garbage in South Asian megacities like New Delhi, Dhaka and Lahore are highlighting a major challenge in the global climate fight. Waste sites generate methane, a potent greenhouse gas, when organic material like food scraps breaks down in the absence of oxygen. Last year, more than half of all methane emissions measured globally from landfills were in Asia, with India accounting for nearly a quarter of the total. The Ghazipur dump on the outskirts of New Delhi was spewing roughly 2.17 metric tons of the gas an hour in March. If that emissions rate was sustained over a year, the leak would have the same short-term impact as the annual emissions from 350,000 US cars. Tap the link in bio for the full story. Technology giant Apple has reported a "near doubling" of revenue in India in the quarter ended June 2022. Announcing financial results for its fiscal 2022 third quarter ended June 25, Apple on Thursday said it had achieved a revenue record of $83 billion, up 2 per cent year-over-year. Apple CEO Tim Cook, during an earnings call, said the $83 billion revenue was "better than we expected despite supply constraints, strong foreign exchange headwinds and the impact of our business in Russia". "We set June quarter records in the Americas, in Europe and the rest of the Asia Pacific region. We also saw June quarter revenue records in both developed and emerging markets, with very strong double-digit growth in Brazil, Indonesia and Vietnam and a near doubling of revenue in India," he said.

The first question Mahadev Adasul would often hear from new acquaintances was about his salary: did he receive it on time? Nowadays that query is not on people’s mind. Salary delays, too, are no longer an issue with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). “Tough times are behind us,” says Adasul, general secretary in the Sanchar Nigam Executives Association (SNEA).
