The Lilac-breasted Roller (Coracias caudatus) is here to bring a splash of color to your day. This vibrant bird is found throughout parts of southeastern Africa, such as Ethiopia, Somalia, and South Africa. It lives in open woodland or grassland habitats, where it's often seen perched on trees scanning the area for insects. Both males and females come in the array of pink and blue hues. Males are known for their acrobatic courtship rituals, which include a series of rolling, twisting, looping, and diving movements. Photo: Ian White, CC BY-NC-SA 2.0. flickr

Just as you might be looking out into the horizon, saying farewell to the last days of July, the wolverine in this diorama is gazing into the distance of Canada’s Barren Lands as the summer Sun sets near midnight.🌅 Today’s Exhibit of the Day takes place in prime wolverine country: cool, remote, and with room to roam. Wolverines are tireless nomads, traveling many miles a day and scaling sheer slopes to find food and mates. Their strength and ferocity is legendary, but wolverines are choosy about what they attack. For example, caribou are hunted only when floundering in deep snow—or are scavenged after a wolf kill. Photo: D.
