WOOT! I’m a business owner for real now!

I had my first customer with her two dogs today at my grooming shop. I got paid and everything! Y’all have put up with so many of my stupid questions that I wanted to say thank you. I know many of the members here have million dollar business, but my little home based shop actually made some money today!

Is there a difference between forming a business as an LLC then electing a S-Corp for taxation versus forming it into straight S-Corp?

I have a business that's an LLC. Planning on electing taxation into an S-Corp. But I wonder if I should just change the entire business entity to an S-Corp instead? Is there a difference in legal protection? Thanks

My SO and I are starting a small house sitting business on the side. Is it better to each have our own insurance policies, or just have mine and sign them up as an independent contractor under my policy?

Pretty much the title I bought insurance for myself in case of anything happening such as damages to the home, claims of theft, etc. I’m just not sure if my SO needs their own insurance, or if I can sign them up as an independent contractor under my policy. The independent contractor is way cheaper than buying a second policy, but I’m not sure how that works in terms of potential claims against us and if that would impact taxes. Any help would be appreciated!

Question on sourcing information about wholesale product pricing

Hi! So I’ve been contemplating a business idea for a small retail store in my area that I believe will fill a major hole in supply for a niche community in my area. However, I want to source the wholesale pricing on product from various name brand retailers, and I’m not sure where I can find that information or who to contact from the respective brands. I want to get pricing for the financial planning aspect of this business plan. If more information is needed I can definitely explain in further detail, but I wanted to keep this post concise.

DBA vs Legal Name Change?

I’ve seen a few posts about this topic but none addressed it fully - my business is expected to gain traction in the coming months, and to prepare for that I was contemplating registering a DBA or changing the legal name of the business entirely (based in NJ). I have a few business checking accounts and CC lines open as well, if that helps in the decision. The name change would have 0 impact on the business operations, but it’s something I’d like to do. I’m assuming it’d be easier for my bank accounts to just create a DBA instead of legally changing the name, but I wouldn’t know. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Registered agent address different than business address

We have a physical store with a GMB profile that is setup well. I heard that since our agent address (via Incfile during LLC formation) registered with the State (for receiving legal notices and government papers) is different than our physical address, it hurts our organic SEO ranking in the eyes of Google since Google polls the state database and sees a mismatch and reduces Name Address Phone number (NAP) consistency. Is this true? Should I consider changing our registered agent address with the State to our physical address? We are open during normal business hours and have received zero correspondence on this registered agent address so not sure we would be risking anything

I need to pick a POS system

So currently, I use a simple cash register for my small business, and excel to manage inventory of ~5000 skus. Now I am acquiring a store that is further away … that I will have to manage remotely. So I must get a POS system, (obviously cloud based so I can monitor the sales from afar). The store currently uses a system that’s ~350 CAD/month , which is way to expensive. I have looked at the basic plan from Eposnow & it seems to be an okay fit. But I also see other options out of the US, like Heartland and SpotOn (is it good for retail?) — I’m looking for some feed back from fellow retailers on their experience with hardware reliability, support, POS speed, etc. Thanks.

How can I reach an IRS business customer service on the phone?

Does anyone on this subreddit have recommendations for how to reach a human on the phone at the IRS' business line? I incorporated a business earlier this year, elected S-Corp status and still haven't received confirmation of S-Corp status 6+ months later. Every time I call the IRS business number to see what's going on, I'm transferred and then told they're overloaded and can't take my call + to try back another day. Thank you!

Should I put my phone number on my business merch? Tshirts, Hats, Toques/Beanies

Hey guys i started a small yard service company and im printing merch for advertising and giveaways, I did a small run of 20 tshirts and i put my company logo(business name in nice font) on the front and back. I have had a few people tell me i should include the phone number in the logo but I am weary of putting it on because it feels weird to me, but so do so many new things with starting a business and "taking" people's hard earned money. Before printing more merch, what is the right choice here. I sold most of my 20 already so I'm planning on getting more stuff printed soon and need to sort this detail out. Phone number on the logo(front & back) or phone number only on 1 of the logos or no phone number. please help.
