Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on #ThisDayInHistory in 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. King received a doctorate degree in theology and in 1955 helped organize the first major protest of the American civil rights movement. Due to habitat loss, their numbers — as well as those of native deer, foxes and other creatures — have been declining for decades. Conservationist and former Patagonia CEO Kristine Tompkins (kristine_tompkins) is working hard to change that. "If there was ever a moment to awaken to the reality that everything is connected to everything else, it's right now — the fate of humanity is tied to the health of the planet," she says. Say “hello” to one fierce marsupial: the spotted-tail quoll (Dasyurus maculatus). It's found on the eastern Australian mainland, as well as on the island of Tasmania. When taking out prey it bites down on the head and uses its strong teeth and jaw to deliver a crushing blow. It has a varied diet which includes a range of critters, such as small mammals, reptiles, birds, and insects—but meat from gliders, rabbits, or bandicoots are favored. Another fun fact about this animal? Its hisses and screams have been likened to the sounds of a circular saw. It also boasts an impressively colorful display of dashboard lights.⁠ ⁠ Predictably, Hasselhoff’s once-in-a-lifetime offering isn’t exactly a bargain. Though estimated to fetch somewhere between $175,000 and $300,000, the leading bid (as of January 8) is $450,000.
