How blue-tiful! π€©π Near the outskirts of the Small Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy about 200 thousand light-years away, lies this 5 million year young and dazzling star cluster known as NGC 602. Inside the star cluster, bright, blue, newly formed stars are blowing a cavity in this nebula, sculpting the inner edge of its outer portions, slowly eroding it away and eating into the material beyond. Star formation started at the center of the cluster and propagated outward, with the youngest stars still forming today along the dust ridges. Fun fact: Did you know that the color of a star is directly linked to its surface temperature? The hotter the star, the shorter the wavelength of light it will emit. The hottest of stars are blue or blue-white and the cooler ones are red or red-brown. What color star would you be? Credit: NASA #NASA #Stars #Universe #Galaxy #BlueStars #Astronomy #FunFacts

Our @SOFIATelescope's infrared gaze reveals that magnetic fields in the outskirts of the Whirlpool galaxy don't follow an orderly structure. Star formation, and a neighboring galaxy, may be causing the chaos: https://t.co/mMJAJ2jjDj https://t.co/o5K8oBwaHs

This NASAHubble portrait reveals the gaseous remains of an exploded massive star that erupted about 1,700 years ago. The stellar corpse, a supernova remnant named 1E 0102.2-7219, met its demise in the Small Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of our Milky Way. Read more at the link in our bio! At 67 million light-years away, NGC 613 is a stunning example of a barred spiral galaxy. Itβs easy to distinguish the galaxy as such because of its well-defined central bar and long arms, which spiral loosely around the nucleus: https://t.co/Lsrr189AjW #HubbleFriday https://t.co/ZmjN6t8QIU
