The unnamed 55-year-old mechanic, from Ukraine, said he scuppered the vessel in Mallorca because he claims his boss sells weapons to Putin that are being used to kill Ukrainians. The Daily Mail reports he told police: "I don't regret anything I've done and I would do it again." The 156ft luxury yacht, named Lady Anastasia, was moored at Pord Adriano by Alexander Mijeev, a former head of the Russian Helicopter Corporation who took over state-owned weapons supplier Rostec six years ago. Mijeev's member of staff, who had worked for him for several years, decided to sink the ship shortly after Russia's invasion began. It's alleged he opened three valves on the yacht so it would take on water 'in an act of revenge', according to Mallorcan newspaper Ultima Hora.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed an application for the country to join the European Union. The move was announced as an ‘historic moment’ by the Parliament of Ukraine on Twitter. The Verkovna Rada of Ukraine also shared a picture of Zelenskyy adding his signature to the letter, as well as a picture of the application itself. Ukraine is currently in the fifth day of an invasion from neighbouring Russia. The President has called for Ukraine to be immediately accepted into the 27-country bloc. In a video speech he said: “We ask the European Union for Ukraine’s immediate accession under a new special procedure. Our goal is to be with all Europeans and, most importantly, to be equal. I’m sure that’s fair. I am sure we deserve it.”
