Single mothers who have chosen to quit their jobs have to navigate child care, health insurance and financial concerns largely on their own. But some have also found a sense of relief. The U.S. has the highest proportion of children living with one parent in the world, with more than 10 million single-parent households (a large majority of those households are led by single mothers). As part of The Times’s “Calling It Quits” series, in which we examine the current culture of quitting, some mothers shared their stories. “I have zero regrets,” insists Alecia Moore. “I could stand naked in front of the entire world and have no shame. Life is supposed to be messy; that’s what makes it interesting.” Moore, the Pennsylvanian singer better known as pink , has enjoyed an extraordinarily long reign for a pop star. It has been 23 years since her debut album, Can’t Take Me Home, launched her in the US, and 22 since she got the party started worldwide with the 13 million-selling follow-up Misundaztood. A string of memorable hit singles (including Just Like a Pill, Family Portrait and Just Give Me a Reason) and acrobatic live performances established her as a punky, pink-haired pop firebrand who could roar like Janis Joplin and bend like an Olympic gymnast. Photos by ebruyildiz Follow the link in bio to read our interview with Pink

Just a few years ago, the NFL seemed to be facing compounding existential crises. This year alone, there were accusations of racial discrimination, concussion issues, and sexual abuse allegations. Yet more people are tuning into games on Sunday. More people are buying tickets to games than even before the pandemic. TV deals grow more lucrative with each contract. No players kneel anymore. And this weekend, to cap off what has seemed like a cursed football season, Rihanna is headlining the Super Bowl LVII halftime show. The league has continued to thrive, and its playbook for survival is simple: Do just enough to keep most of us from turning away. Tap the link in our bio for more. (📸: Adam Maida for BuzzFeed News)

A U.S. jet on Saturday shot down an unidentified flying object over Canada. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that he and President Biden had ordered the downing of the object, which “represented a reasonable threat to civilian aircraft.” https://t.co/YHGhBJw7gH https://t.co/9fLZt0JIhH

A picture is worth a thousand words. But when that picture is a high-precision 3D image of the face, it might be worth a thousand blood tests as well. That’s because those full cheeks and under-eye bags are not just unsightly harbingers of age, but also a reflection of our health. Via natgeo. Tap link in bio for more. #news #aging #science #face

In the six months since the launch of the national, government-backed 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, contact and answer rates have risen dramatically, while the average speed to answer has dropped, according to data. "As we expected, there's been a significant increase in the use of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline service since this transition to a three-digit number," April Naturale, interim executive director of the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, told ABC News. "And actually, we're really grateful that more people are contacting the line with this change. That was the whole goal." More in LINK IN BIO. #news #lifeline #988

When former county prosecutor Edward Cosgrove initially heard of the racially motivated mass shooting at a Tops supermarket in Buffalo that left 10 people dead, he said his mind raced back more than four decades to when he led the hunt for another gun-wielding racist killer who terrorized the city for months. Cosgrove told ABC News he instantly recognized the eerie parallels between the May 2022 massacre by a white man authorities said sought to kill Black people, and the serial hate killings committed in 1980 by Joseph Christopher, a white Buffalo resident dubbed the ".22-Caliber Killer." Even the location of Christopher's first slaying was similar — the parking lot of a Tops store. "It's a repeat." More in LINK IN BIO.
