One night, Rabbi Daniel Bogard’s 6-year-old daughter asked: “Daddy, do you think God could make me over again as a boy?” As the months passed, and the child began asking people to use “boy words” to refer to him, cropping his hair short and joining the boys’ soccer team, the change just seemed to make sense. Friends, family and schoolmates accepted him as a boy, and he flourished. All of which had brought the family to this fateful moment three years later. As Bogard and his now 9-year-old son piled into the family minivan at dawn for one of their regular four-hour round trips to the Missouri Capitol in Jefferson City to share their story with lawmakers, the rabbi worried what might lie ahead. “Our state is at war with our family,” Bogard said. “It’s not an exaggeration that we are up at night talking about when and how far we might have to flee.” Read more through the link in our bio. 🔴 A father of three who had an accident on his quadbike while riding along a beach in Argentina has turned up dead – inside the stomach of a shark. Diego Barria, 32, a father-of-three, was last seen riding his Yamaha Raptor off-road buggy along a stretch of coastline in the southern province of Chubut 10 days ago. He then disappeared. His wife, Virginia, posted desperate messages on her Facebook page, appealing for him to get in touch. Two local men went fishing and hauled three sharks out of the sea. When they cut them open to clean them and prepare them for eating, they found human remains. 🔗 Read the full story at the link in our bio. #argentina #sharks #southamerica

Three "Rust" crew members filed a civil lawsuit against Alec Baldwin and the film’s producers on Friday, claiming that they were left with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder following the 2021 on-set shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The crew members claim in the lawsuit that they suffered “blast injuries” from the “deafening” sound of the gun’s discharge. The complaint further states that the crew members were not offered any “meaningful emotional or mental health services” by the producers and had to find their own support. 🇪🇪 To mark Estonia’s independence day, Tallinn’s ambassador to the UK invited a small number of guests for a swim in the Serpentine, the lake in the centre of London’s Hyde Park. The day, which falls on Feb 24 this year, was the country’s 105th such celebration. The date also marked exactly a year since the start of Russia’s full invasion of Ukraine. The aim of the event was to help build resilience, Estonian style. Viljar Lubi, the country's ambassador, also intended the plunge to show his country’s solidarity with the people of Ukraine. Dominic Nicholls, The Telegraph’s Associate Editor, was invited to don his Bermuda shorts and take the plunge. Whilst in the near freezing water, he took the opportunity to interview Mr Lubi and ask whether the ambassador to Russia had also been invited. 🔗 Tap the link in bio for more #estonia🇪🇪 #estoniaindependenceday

Tens of thousands of people jammed Mexico’s grandest plaza and rallied around the country on Sunday to protest a law that would weaken the national electoral institute, with many fearful the measure could hobble Mexico’s young democracy. “Don’t touch our vote!” they chanted, waving Mexican flags and hoisting umbrellas against the late morning sun. The turnout underscored how much the electoral law has galvanized voters, after four years in which President Andrés Manuel López Obrador largely dominated political life. The veteran leftist’s party holds a majority in Congress and has swept most governor’s offices, outmaneuvering a divided opposition discredited by corruption scandals. The uproar over the new law comes amid growing concern about backsliding in democracies that replaced dictatorships in many parts of Latin America after the Cold War. ✍️ "The cost of the lockdowns ran into the trillions, and Beijing still refuses to be open on the virus’s origins," writes Matthew Lynn. "It might have been a moment of carelessness. It might have been a rogue worker. Or it might even have been done deliberately. "Whatever the explanation, there is a growing belief within security, intelligence, and medical circles that Covid-19 escaped from a laboratory in Wuhan. 🔴"Three years of lockdowns, an estimated six million deaths, and a shattered global economy may all have been caused not by a horrific accident involving food markets and bats, but because a virus broke out of a lab and infected humans. "We may never know for sure, because of Beijing’s refusal to be open with the rest of the world as to what happened and the World Health Organisation’s fumbled investigation. "But it looks increasingly plausible." 👉 Read more the the link in our bio. #china #covid #beijing #wuhan #coronavirus #opinion

An animal rights charity has called on Crufts to ban flat-faced dogs over health concerns. “Because humans have bred these dogs to have extreme and unnaturally flat faces, many bulldogs, pugs, pekingese and other flat-faced breeds can barely breathe — let alone go for a walk or chase a ball — without gasping for air due to their shortened airways,” Kate Werner, the senior campaigns manager at Peta, said in a letter to the Kennel Club’s chairman. “As the world’s largest dog show, Crufts can help by refusing to celebrate and promote dogs with these unnatural features, which result in enormous suffering for dogs as well as hefty veterinary bills and heartbreak for their guardians.” 🔗 Read more via link in bio #cruffs #peta #animalrights

Perspective by Sheeka Sanahori (sheeka.sanahori): "Welcome to Yazoo, MS,” declares a bright red banner with white letters painted onto the side of a gas station. Yazoo City, Miss., was the Amtrak train’s first stop after leaving Jackson. My face was glued to the train’s window. I was trying to memorize every church facade, empty lot and oak tree as the train picked up speed, heading north. My 5-year-old son, Amir, was happily munching on snacks, excited to sleep on a train. I’d explained the significance of this trip, but I knew a deeper appreciation would develop once he was older. We were riding the train to retrace the journey north that our ancestors took on the Great Migration, paying homage to their brave decision to seek a better life. I knew my ancestors’ train ride from Mississippi to Missouri would have been more arduous than mine, but I wondered whether this was the same landscape my family saw when they journeyed north.
