The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said on Friday that Will Smith would be barred from attending the Oscars for 10 years because of the “harmful behavior” he displayed when he struck the comedian Chris Rock during last month’s ceremony. The ban came a week after the actor resigned from the organization following his violent outburst on the Oscar stage on March 27. Will Smith will not be allowed to attend the Academy Awards for the next 10 years, as a result of his slapping comedian Chris Rock on stage during this year's Oscar ceremony, The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences announced in a statement obtained by CNN.⁠ ⁠ The decision was made during a Board of Governors meeting held earlier in the day in Los Angeles.
