The cease-fire took effect at 2 a.m. local time Friday after 11 bloody days of fighting between Israel and Hamas. Palestinians took to the streets in Gaza City and Jerusalem, waving flags and gathering in droves at the al-Asqa mosque to celebrate the cease-fire. Palestinians and Israeli police clashed Friday at the mosque, which had been a flashpoint in triggering the initial fighting, with Israeli police arresting 16 people, the AP reported. At least 232 Palestinians, including 65 children, were killed since the fighting began on May 10, according to Gaza health officials. The death toll in Israel was 12, authorities said, according to Reuters. Both sides have claimed victory, and Israel has vowed to respond to any further attacks with a “new level of force," the AP reported: “If Hamas thinks we will tolerate a drizzle of rockets, it is wrong," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. Former president Donald Trump charged the Secret Service more than $40,000 this spring for rooms that Trump’s own protective detail used while guarding him at his Mar-a-Lago Club, according to federal spending records. The records show that Trump’s club charged the Secret Service $396.15 every night starting Jan. 20, the day he left the White House and moved full-time into his Palm Beach, Fla., club. Those charges, ultimately paid by taxpayers, continued until at least April 30, the spending records show, for a total of $40,011.15. The charges were for a single room used as a workspace by Secret Service agents, according to one person familiar with the payments. Read more by clicking the link in our bio.

📺 Martin Bashir, in the words of a senior BBC executive on Panorama, “could charm the birds from the trees” He used that charm to full effect to woo Princess Diana into giving an explosive interview on Nov 20, 1995. Lord Dyson had another word for it. Lies. The retired judge’s lengthy, weighty report details the scheming and maneuvering undertaken by Bashir, then a relatively unknown reporter, to persuade the Princess to give him the interview. It involves 38 astonishing lies, allegations, and smears – the majority of which Bashir denies every saying – to win over the Princess at a conspiratorial first meeting at a flat in Knightsbridge two months before the interview. 🗒️ Read more at the link in our bio 🗒️ #martinbashir #princessdiana #royalfamily #bbc #royals

As the violence between Israel and Hamas has raged over the past week and a half, the nights have been punctuated by sirens, blasts and booms. Civilians have huddled together in their homes, wide-awake; in Gaza, parents have put cotton balls in their children’s ears to muffle the sound of bombardments. Israeli strikes killed more than 40 people in Gaza on May 16, including 10 children. More than 200 Palestinians have died over the past 11 days. Residents said they have nowhere to hide, no shelters and no escape. These are some of the sounds from one of the deadliest nights in Gaza, as people like Mohammed Jaber try to stay safe.
