What is something you didn't buy because you thought you didn't need, but bought later and can't live without?

I'll go first, electric nail file.

Solidarity can be built by supporting students' understandings of how structural power and oppression limit communities from living full, whole lives. @learnforjustice https://t.co/k1OV54pE4h

Should I let my 12 year old daughter get Instagram?

My daughter has just started high school this year and the conversation has now turned to social media. She wanted to get TikTok, I said no. Now she has asked to get Instagram, she asked me tonight and it ended in tears with her saying “I don’t understand her and all her friends have it and she it’s going to be the weird one without” I am a young dad and very much in the tech scene. I do full get the desire to have Insta and be in the crowd but I worry about the risks of body persecution issues, mental health and everything else that is coming to light about social media. I thought TikTok was too addictive. Am I doing the right thing here? My partner fears I am saying no to everything and my daughter will end up resenting me and doing it anyway and not talking to us anymore. My and my daughter get on so well but these things are super difficult.

I got lab-work done 4 months PP to see if I’m iron deficient..

Nope. Not iron deficient. Not deficient in any single thing. Nothing abnormal on my hematology panel. Turns out I’m simply tired AF because looking after a 4 month old is exhausting. Got a good laugh at this this morning (find the humour in everything right?)

Does delaying a new born's first Hep B shot a few days decrease it's effectiveness?

I'm due with my first baby in March. I'm told by the hospital, baby will get his first Hep B shot day of birth, and nothing else until his 2 months appointment with his pediatrician. He will have his first pediatrician appointment a few days after we are discharged from the hospital and I would like to get the Hep B shot there instead. Honestly it's just because I have a lot of anxiety about hospitals making mistakes and would prefer to wait the few days so everything will be with the same doctor. I think the hospital is pressuring me because they assume I'm not getting it at all. This is NOT the case. I can't find any actual evidence on this. All I see talks about delayed vaccine schedules. It's only this first one I'm concerned about. Everything else would be on the normal CDC recommended schedule. Note, he will be getting Vitamin K in the hospital as I know the potential risks of waiting for that.

How many times does a baby need to get sick before they start building a stronger immune system.

My baby has been sick 5x - at least 1/ mo (except December cause he stayed home). I’m paying for full time daycare when it feels like he’s home at least 1 week/ mo. I’m wondering if this is even worth it or if I should pull him from daycare/ switch daycares.

Why does it feel like I'm prepping for the apocalypse everytime I leave the house?!

I am probably overthinking everything but I swear leaving the house with my 6mo is a whole ordeal. Gotta make sure he has a full tummy, clean diaper on, and 4-6 more + wipes in the bag. Extra onsie and pants JIC, too. And a bottle because he may get hungry, and maybe a jar of baby food in case he wants that instead. Oh, then a bib and a spoon. Oh, better get some teethers too. And his favorite stuffie. Make sure I go pee and feed & water myself. Then we both have to be dressed for the weather. All the layers, because he runs hot and I run cold. A blanket couldn't hurt. Then I have to remember all the "normal" stuff like my wallet, phone, car keys, etc etc. If I feel like I've remembered everything I've probably forgotten something 🤣

Is bringing your 1.5 year old to bed after they wake up and won't go to sleep at night?

Hey guys My 18 month old still wakes up once or twice every night. He's been doing this pretty much his entire life. He is so hard to soothe and a lot of the time once he is soothed he wakes back up. He goes to sleep on his own just fine (I still in the room but don't have to rock him). When he wakes up in the morning, he's fine. He will fiddle fart in his crib for awhile just talking to himself and playing with whatever he has. At night when he wakes, he wails. I also have a 4year old and they share a room. Sometimes the older one wakes up, sometimes he sleeps thru the whole wailing episode (not sure how he does it) One thing that does work is to just bring him into my bed and have him sleep with me. He falls fast asleep and stays that way for the rest of the night. So I'm wondering, is it so bad to just bring him to bed with me? Should I keep trying to soothe him and make him sleep in his own at this age? Any personal success stories?

How long should a baby be left outside for winter naps?

Is there a guideline for different temperatures? Haven’t done more than 3-4hrs straight so far

The idea of my child reliving my experiences was unbearable. I didn’t want my son to end up incarcerated like me. I was determined to help him forge a better life. #Parents https://t.co/zvqzpZayTq

“Calm parents happy kids” by Laura Markham

What’s the general consensus on this book from an evidence based perspective? I’m 1/4 of the way through and so far she has stated that children shouldn’t go to daycare until they’re at least 3 as it breaks the attachment. She also states even looking at your phone causes small breaks in the attachment. I’m not sure how realistic this kind of entirely self sacrificial parenting thing is and wondering other perspectives on this book.

Help!!! Any ideas what my two year old wants!?

My two year old is usually super chill, but this week he's going through an incredibly frustrating phase. I give him his water in a sippy cup, and he goes and finds another sippy cup, holds them both out to me, and just sobs his little head off. I've tried transferring the drink to the other cup, filling both cups, putting one of the cups away,, and changing the drink (milk, juice, etc), but he just keeps screaming and eventually starts shoving the cups into my hands and face as if he REALLY URGENTLY NEEDS SOMETHING NOW, but wtf is it!?! I just had to put him in his room because he's screaming the house down and disrupting my husband's meeting 😅 HEEELLLLP OMG help please. Dying over here. Thanks! ETA: He is not really talking much yet so I can't ask him or converse with him pretty much at all =\
