Our son turns 10 months today. His dads are proud of him! He’s walking and climbing and we can’t keep our eyes off him. We are tired. But it’s worth it.

My 5 year old told me that he doesn't want to grow up and be old and boring like his dad. I said, "Why do you say that?" And he said, "Just look at his underwear! All grey and white and black! Not a single Star Wars person or dinosaur on them!"

Tips for toddler in wedding

My LO will have just turned three and is going to be a ring bearer in my sister's wedding this summer (although he's not carrying the rings physically). I'll be in the wedding party as well and my husband will be there as a guest. Any tips/tricks from parents who have been in this situation with their kiddos, especially toddlers? Things you did beforehand or day of that helped? Things you wished you did? Looking for any and all advice to make this as easy and painless as possible. Which I know is asking a lot when it comes to toddlers.

Why am I the way I am

I've always had issues with socialization. For a long time I didn't talk. Now that I do, I find that I don't always pick up right away on social cues and have a difficult time cutting myself off. Today my husband and I were having a conversation and I saw the eyerolling/frustration. I immediately apologized and told him that I see he is frustrated. He tells me "You're just verging on lecture territory that's all". Admittedly, I was speaking impassionedly. But for whatever reason, that moment is weighing really heavy on my heart. I'm embarrassed, I feel like I want to cry, and I want to go hide in a hole. I don't know why I have these problems. I've had a horrible past couple of days and I attempted suicide 2 days ago (I know I need help). I'm just feeling a lot of hurt for a lot of reasons and I guess I'm being overly sensitive. I just need to spill this out somewhere because there's a lump in my throat and I don't want to cry.

Sometimes parents are super strict about technology because there are reality-based reasons for that. I’ll be talking about teens, tweens and tech during my webinar on April 8th at 7:30 pm ET. https://t.co/47Bx34qvUM https://t.co/7pEJzFcAzZ

13 month old screams her head off

Ever since my daughter turned one she wakes up at night inconsolable. she screams her head off and nearly chokes on her own saliva. she refuses to be calmed down. we have to get her out of her room and distract her to stop her from crying. the first time she did this (about 3 weeks ago) i thought she was in horrible pain because i had never seen her this upset before. nothing helps. it takes about 3 hours for her to go back to sleep. she sleeps very well when it comes to her nap, she has one nap a day ranging from 1,5-2,5 hours. she then goes to bed at 7 and has 12/13 hours of (broken) night sleep. i dont know what to do anymore, she has always been a bad sleeper but sleep training always worked for us. I dont think sleep training will help here as she gets way too upset. another challenge to face, i hope someone can give me some advice on this.

I got a break!

My MIL took my two girls (4,1) for a week. We just got them back on Saturday. I am noticing a lot more patience and general happiness in myself and my husband. We are both still working from home and having some time to ourselves without the constant demand of kids has been so freeing. I feel so rejuvenated and I'm ready to be a mom again.

On horse taming and child rearing

So this was something a horse tamer said the other day, and I thought it was super applicable to child rearing. It’s not about exerting control. It’s about how we respond in the face of the uncontrollable. I just notice so much mom guilt. And I mean, some of it is natural, but so much of it is a result of society, family, even other moms (not you guys — you guys are the best and I wish the world was more like our little corner of Reddit). We feel guilty for things beyond our control all the time — a fall off a swing, a tantrum in the mall, hubby being incompetent when left in charge of the kids (aqua tofana???), even our own mental health. But these are not reflections on us as parents. What matters is our decisions — not one, but the sum of our decisions over time, as we choose to respond to all that is beyond our control. Anyways, that’s quite enough of that. Hope y’all have a great day mamas! You’re awesome!
