Wife is working. Daughter has a bday party. Wife texts me: “make sure she looks decent”

Am I wrong to get a little put off by this text? I mean, the implication is that I’m not a savvy enough dad to dress my daughter decently. What did she expect me to dress her up like? An exotic dancer? A super hero? In rags? What constitutes decent anyway?

If you have to ask if you are being abused, you are probably being abused.

In light of the recent posts about men displaying obviously abusive behavior, I would like to say: 1. Refusing to let you leave the house to get food for your children is abuse 2. Calling you names like stupid is abuse 3. Berating you for simple mistakes is abuse 4. Hitting you is abuse 5. Not allowing you to get food or clothing for your children is abuse 6. Controlling finances is abuse I could go on, but if your partner does any of these behaviors you need to do everything in your power to leave. You and your children deserve a healthy and stable home.

How do I decide on naming my baby girl?

Hi mamas and papas, I’m due my second child in about 6 weeks and the name has been difficult. We have a few choice names and decided to see which one suits her better when she arrives. The issue I’m having is that when we had our son, we gave him two middle names - after my partner’s father and my grandfather. My MIL wants her name as a middle name for our daughter since we done it with the grandfathers - understandable. Her name is quite nice so I wouldn’t mind. But I dont feel like I can use her name and not my own mother’s. However… my mums name is an issue. We are Scottish and she has a very traditional name and I hate it so much, its one of the ugliest names I have ever heard. It would be cruel to give her such a name in my opinion. I do not want to give it to my daughter. My mum doesn’t like her name either, but she has hinted once or twice seemingly jokingly. What do I do? Is there a compromise I can come up with and honour her in another way? HELP😭

Went to brunch and came home early to a quiet house

Had brunch this morning with my sister and expected to be out for 4 hours or so. The place was about 30 minutes away and my sister loves to talk, so I estimated. Hubby said he had to go to his moms and asked when I’d be back. I told him not till later and he didn’t want to wait so he took kiddo with him. I left here at 9:15 and was back by 1145. Sister was in a rush to get home. No one was home when I got here and man is it fantastic. Bro moms this is the first time in years my husband took kiddo somewhere without me in years, and I got to relax. I believe the last time was when I had a kidney stone, which was when kid was 2. Kid is now 6. The only other time I get this is when I take PTO while kiddo is at school. Not only did I get an amazing breakfast, I got to come home and straighten up, and read my book with no screaming or whining from both of them. Oh and I made a mimosa. Cheers ladies.

Recommend album/artist/playlist for baby?

Looking for ideas for music to soothe baby, also songs to entertain him and sing along with to him. Does not necessarily have to be traditional lullabies/baby music although I’m curious to hear if your baby seems to prefer baby music or if it doesn’t make much difference? Also hoping for recommendations of artists/albums I can download as I won’t pay for Spotify and don’t want to bother with their ads. Thanks!

Let’s talk swim diapers

With summer right around the corner for those of us in the northern hemisphere, I’ve been wondering about the best diapers for swimming with my baby! Are reusable better than disposable (functionally speaking, they’re obviously better for the environment!) What are the pros and cons of each? When we go to the beach, I’m assuming disposable will be better because of sand, but I have no idea what to expect! Bubs will be six months in June, if that makes a difference!

It finally happened!

My three year old son has a speech delay. We’ve been working with a speech pathologist for more than a year now. A few minutes ago my son crawled into my lap, hugged me and said, “Love you Mommy.” That was the first time. I just wanted to spread hope to anyone that needs it.

Cost of Child

How much do you spend on your child? How much for Food and clothing for them? Do you pay for extracurricular activities? How many? How often do you spend all this?

Should i take full custody of my child?

I (22m) broke up with the mom of my kid (22f) almost 2 years ago. We always had shared custody over our kid, but for a year the mom as been very problematic. She is suicidal, cuts herself, has multiple mental problems too, smokes weed etc. She is on welfare since maybe 6 months ago, so even if it is shared custody, i must pay child support. She got a girlfriend now, she is with her every single weekend so she only sees the kid 2 days a week, wich is way less than shared custody allows. I think i should ask a lawyer about taking full custody of my child, would you all agree? She is really a problem in my child’s life and i am furious about it.
