My son wanted to a a princess for halloween
We went to the store to pick up Halloween costumes for my kids the other day and my 5 year old boy asked for a princess dress.. Now this doesn't bother me at all but I did want him to look at all of the costumes 1st. We went through and looked at all the other costumes but he still wanted the dress. It looked him in the eye and I told him that that's fine if he wanted the dress but that he needed to understand that people might think he looks like a girl and asked him if he was OK with that. He said no and quickly chose a superhero boys costume. Should I have said something different? I don't want him to think it's bad for boys to like princesses.

New research suggests young children don't seek help in school, even when they need it because they care deeply about the way others think about them. In fact, kids sometimes go so far as to cheat at simple games to look smart. @kayla_good_ @sciam https://t.co/uxdlFuWvET

My husband when baby woke in the night…
95 percent of the time, was the one who got out of bed and brought the baby to me to nurse. When baby finished, he brought baby back to bed. He did this for a year and a half of our son’s life, till we weaned and he began sleeping through the night. Just wanted to share a positive husband story. There are lots of amazing dads out there.

How do you define ‘evidence based’ and how much/what sort of evidence do you need to consider it ‘factual’.
Came across a USA board certified paediatrician on social media who said that: for anything to be considered ‘truth’ there should be at least 40 studies on the topic. Would you consider 10 studies? 30 studies? 1 study? as ‘evidence based’ research? What criteria or methodologies should these studies adhere to? Should they have large sample sizes? Randomized? Observation vs. Self reported? EDIT: I do realize that researchers have very limited funding and resources to meet gold standards of research but I’m just seeing what all you nerds think. Lol

5 year old keeps going into the girls room at school
My son is 5, turning 6 soon. We got a call from the principal today about him once again going into the girls room. The first time, he said he just followed a friend in and wanted to see what was in there. He had to sit a silent lunch and we explained at home why it was important that he not go into the girls room. The second time, he said that the teacher accidentally put a "wet floor sign" into the girls room when it should've gone into the boys room because there was a flood, and he was trying to get the sign. He had to sit out recess. This last time, the third time, he said he didn't know why he went in, he just did. He has to sit 2 days out of recess. I've taken away things he enjoys and he's spoken to the principal and teachers. His principle has largely put it on us to correct this behavior, I just don't know how. He says he understands why he can't go in there, yet does it anyway. Any advice, please?

Off my zoloft - pray for me.
To be clear I **NEED** this medicine, probably a higher dose even … But I can’t afford it. So now I’m just free ballin life again and I’m terrified. I really wish I didn’t have to choose between a medication that makes life easier and “good groceries” *(I even have a little song when I take my medicine in the morning, it goes 🎶”the best part of waking up - is WANTING to wake up!”🎶)* … but it’s just gotten to that point. So just send some good vibes if you have any to spare. Thanks for being my community on easy days and really hard weeks.

Help me convince my husband that we should turn the dining room into a totally baby-safe zone / play room!
He’s not onboard at the moment. We never use our dining room so I’d love to convert it into a playroom. Gate it off so it’s safe for baby to crawl without getting trampled by the giant dog and also baby proof it 110% so there’s never anything to worry about (with us watching him or with the nanny). Baby is currently working on rolling so he’ll be crawling in a couple of months. Currently my husband says the dining room is too front and center (right at the front door) to be a playroom. In my defense, we don’t use the front door, we use the side so it’s just the room that sits there with no purpose. Just a nice table that we don’t use. Help me convince him!!

The two hourly wakeups are killing me.
I also have two other children, aged five and three. Baby is nearly four months. She's been waking up every two hours after her initial four hour stretch, and I honestly can't remember how to figure out what's going on. I sleep with a weighted blanket and still have night sweats so I honestly can't tell if she's too hot or cold. I think she's teething but then wouldn't she be waking more frequently at the start of the night? And I'm 99% sure she's over her most recent cold. Give me your suggestions, commiserations, whatever. Thank god she's okay with coffee (I breastfeed) but I'm a zombie until I get some actual caffeine in my system - I just made a bottle of cold brew for a stronger hit first thing in the morning.

Mother in law thinks uncle shouldn't change baby's diaper
I am not married but my boyfriend and I are very close to my brother. He's a few years older than us and has kids of his own. We rely on him heavily for advice on EVERYTHING. Our daughter is 7 months old, and we leave her at my brother's every now and then. So today my "future to be mother-in-law" goes "who handles the diaper changes at your brother's?" I said my brother does. A whole argument followed. My boyfriend backed me up and she called him an idiot. She has this weird thing where she makes everything out to be about our age. How we're young, stupid, naive, and don't know the dangers out there. I'm honestly embarrassed for my brother, when I told him what she said he looked disgusted and deflated. I swear he shed a tear when we said our goodbyes.

Nobody wants to be friends with my daughter(7).
She has been going to this school since kindergarten. She is grade 2 and still has barely any friends. She had a friend in K and grade 1, however her friend ditched her for another girl and they both refused to play with my daughter; even told her they didn’t wanna be friends with her. Grade 2 started, my daughter has different kids this year so I encouraged her to make some new friends. She did, but after a week, they have also told her they don’t wanna be friends with her. My heart is breaking for her even tho she doesn’t seem to be bothered. My daughter is an extremely kind and sweet person and doesn’t deserve this. Should I probe her as to how she plays to get a better idea of why no one wants to be with her friends? Maybe, she is doing something wrong? I have seen her play with girls her age and she plays like a typical child, nothing unusual. I’m at a loss.

shingles
I have shingles. SHINGLES Im on day 4 of anti viral and this is the hardest thing I've ever gone thru. I have so much pain nothing helps. I can't really take perscription pain meds they make me feel sick i literally just sit and cry - anyway I was hoping to just wanting to hear other stories to get me thru. I have them on my forehead, eye lid and scalp. The nerve pain is absolutely awful. Most likely brought on by stress because I do everything fucking thing for everyone in my house and I haven't been sleeping good last month because I suffer from night terrors. I'm 37 so thats fun! Send wine or just tell me it'll be over soon. Thank goodness my son is vaccinated I never realized how important the chicken pox vaccine truly is until I found out the hell that is shingles
