Is it acceptable to feed your toddlers veggies with peanut butter for lunch?

I’m thinking ants-on-a-log (celery, peanut butter, and raisins). Or fruit (apples and bananas) with peanut butter. With some kind of drink of course (water or juice). Someone criticized me that feeding my kids (4yo,2yo) ants-on-log for lunch was not a complete meal and therefore unacceptable. I think it’s a healthy and totally acceptable lunch for small bellies, and fun, too. This person didn’t seem to be a parent, so I wanted to ask the real ones what they thought. Thanks! Edit: I do not serve my children veggies and peanut butter for lunch every single day, obviously. I’m wondering if it is an acceptable lunch to serve, though.

My almost 9 month old doesn't crawl or roll over even but she does a lot of whatever this is.

COVID exacerbated existing issues in learning. Some students have bounced back, but others – especially third graders and middle schoolers – have more work to do, according to a new report. @jillbarshay @hechingerreport https://t.co/O6rWkUVJGN

Stop telling me to give my 4mo baby rice cereal.

In 36 hours I have had 4 middle age women tell me to give my baby rice cereal to “fill their belly” so they will sleep through the night. Just no.

Grandpa

My father in law always called me sexy and stuff and I’d roll my eyes or ignore. Eventually this died down. Now he’s saying that my 17 month old daughter has sexy boots on. Am I upright? I really feel the need to tell him to never refer to anything his Granddaughter does as sexy, ever again.

Would it be awful of me to try selling my unused baby clothes instead of donating them?

I have a pile of clothes to donate (things that look used and that I wouldn't want to keep and use again), clothes to keep for the next baby (used, but still look fine/new), and a pile of clothes to try selling (never used/still have tags/ never wanted to use) Is that terrible to do? I'd try selling them online for cheap prices, like $1 per onesie or set of shirt and pants. I'm a SAHM and I've been selling my own old clothes and knickknacks online for some extra money, so I figured why not brand new baby clothes too? What are you doing with brand new unused items?

20 years ago today my mom died

That’s really it. That’s the post. I was 16 when she died. It was 2 weeks into my junior year of high school. I knew she was going to die (cancer). But 20 years later, I still miss her so much. No one in my life really acknowledges my loss. My dad won’t say anything to me (my parents were married when my mom died). My husband NEVER says anything to me on the anniversary of her death. I think he just doesn’t know what to say. It just feels so isolating. I miss my mom and I miss having a mom. I wish she was here.

what I love about my baby

My 9mo baby acts like she drank a vat of caffeine every day, so active she literally crawls and scoots around in her sleep since 6 months old. She cannot be confined to anybody's arms for too long unless she is sleepy. She is an independent player so I'm able to get me time a lot and I find her absolutely hilarious. It also makes it all the more sweeter when she CHOOSES me and crawls over to give me hugs and kisses. Right now my favorite thing is when she's being playful with me she will crawl towards me barring all 5 of her teeth and make a hissing sound before climbing me and giving me big wet slobbery kisses and screech laughing about it. Tell me things you love about your baby and funny things they are doing right now!

Is Screen Time really so awful?

I’m not sure if this counts as asking for medical advice but here I go. I have 2 11 month old twin boys, and while either I, my wife, or their grandma spend 90% of the day playing with, reading to, etc with them, we do use the TV as temporary a distraction while prepping meals/cleaning up. Since more often than not it’s one of us watching two crawling infants it’s quite difficult to accomplish anything without them getting getting into everything, but we throw on the wiggles or Sesame Street for a couple minutes and they just love it. Now I’m reading that screen time should be at 0 up until 18 months and now I feel like a horrible parent. We don’t leave them in front of a TV all day. Grand total I’d say they get about 30, max 40 mins (however long it takes to do dishes or put together their lunch/dinner) divided up in 10 min blocks. Have I really hurt my kids development here? They’re meeting milestones well enough I think. What’s everyone else’s experience?

Lawn Decorations

Hi Bromos! I had an idea last week to make lawn decorations that can be used for two holidays. This weekend my dad came up and helped bring my idea to life. I now have Pumpkins that double as a snowman and giant Christmas ornaments. Bonus face pieces to turn them into jack-o'-lanterns, and leaves to make them more fall friendly. Giant candy corn that turns into trees. Gravestones that turn into Christmas presents. Ghosts that turn into candy canes. And they will last for years. I still have to paint them and finish them. Once I am done the lawn decorations can be up in the yard from September through December. It cost $150.00 for ~19 giant lawn decorations. The jack skellington decoration my husband wants is $199.00. When I am done I will post pictures because I think this is a budget friendly idea.

How important is it to wash all of baby’s clothes/ linens before use?

I’m officially in crunch-time territory and trying to figure out how best to prioritize my time, so I’m wondering, how important is it to pre-wash all of baby’s clothes and linens in the weeks before use? I plan on washing everything that’s used, with the possible exception of some clothes I got from my sister that I know were washed in her smoke-free home just a few weeks ago. How important is it to wash brand new clothes and linens before use? I assume the main risk is in residue from manufacturing? Piggybacking: How important is it to use a baby detergent or free-and-clear detergent, versus regular detergent? Thank you!

Another mom told me that my daughter has the “best manners” today

and I wanna cry. We’ve been working so hard on her social skills and trauma behaviors for the last couple years. Play therapy, horse therapy, skills training, occupational therapy, medications, parenting classes, the whole kitchen sink. I’m not used to hearing compliments, just complaints. I’m so proud of my little nugget. She’s doing so good.
