Lighthearted vent: why does all baby stuff have to be beige or have that stupid muted-coloured rainbow?

That stupid rainbow is everywhere. Also, everything being beige isn’t very high contrast for young babies, so isn’t this not good for their developing vision? Why is this a thing??

Students, parents and teachers love the 4-day school week, found in mostly rural areas. But now seven newer studies generally find negative results – some tiny and some more substantial. @jillbarshay @hechingerreport https://t.co/5tb4zofNlW

8year old won't stop pooping his pants

Just like the title says, my 8 year old continues to shit himself every time he is here. He comes from a split house, spending the majority of his time at the other household. This has been an issue for about 4 years now, with a zero accident stint of at least 6 months last year. We've tried punishments, talking it out with him, making him clean it himself, and just ignoring it. He sees a therapist when he is able to, but his other parents won't take him and we only have him every other weekend. He tells us he doesn't want to stop what he's doing to go to the bathroom, he tells us he doesn't know there's poop in his underwear, he tells us he doesn't have accidents at the other house. We are at our wits end here and I'm feeling like a failure to say the least. Does anyone have any advice we could try?

I wear nappies!

This is a conversation I had with my daughter last week whilst I was on my period. My daughter is 4.I was getting changed at the time and I was wearing my partner’s boxers and she could see some of the sanitary towel. Dd; mummy! Your nappy! Me; oh no sweet heart that’s not a nappy! Dd; what is it? Me; ummm ( desperately trying to think) Ummm ( couldn’t think what to say) ummm, okay yeah it is a nappy. Ff a week to today at fireworks and I call her to say that I need to go toilet and we will come back and play in a minute and she shouts at the top of her voice “MUMMY ITS OK, JUST USE YOUR NAPPY!” I could of died.

Plan B does NOT work if you already ovulated

Posting this here because I’m seeing a lot of women don’t know this!! It’s like a giant birth control pill that prevents ovulation only, nothing more. Not conception, not implantation. I didn’t know when I took Plan B one hour after unprotected sex (I had already experienced ovulation symptoms 1 day prior), but here I am 7 weeks pregnant and 10 months postpartum. A google search will tell you the same, but for those who like research evidence: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.contraception.2022.01.006

I can't deal with the clutter!

How are you all dealing with the constant flow of STUFF your kids bring home? I feel like we're drowning in things. Toys, papers, clothes. I'm slowly going through everything and getting rid of old things, but it's so much. Plus it was just my kiddo's birthday in September. She got a lot of great stuff! But with Christmas coming and doting grandparents and aunts and uncles... here comes more. Our house is only 1200 sq ft. I'm TIRED.

Looking for game recommendations!

With winter arriving and being inside more we want to have a family game night regularly. Kids are 5,7&14. I’d love to get a couple for Christmas and check out what our library has as well. We currently have and play regularly; connect four, guess who, pop the pig, memory card games, scrabble, dominos, go fish, snakes and ladders and jenga. What do you love to play with your kids?

How to successfully be and deal with being a single parent advice?

With inflation, cost of housing, having to physically be at work while having a young child/any child, all of the bills that need to be paid and a baby that needs attention. The water levels are rising and I’m not talking climate change, how do people do it???

15 month old… ready for no more naps during the day?

I have a 15 month old son. At around 10 months or so, he dropped from 2 daily naps to 1 on his own. Over the past couple weeks he’s been fighting his one nap (usually beginning between 12 and 12:30) HARD. And when he does nap it’s not the 2-3 hour naps he used to do; it’s anywhere from 20-45 minutes only. One thing changed; we did temporarily move in with my parents until we can find a better home. He’s also been waking up anywhere between 5:40 and 6:30 am instead of the 7-7:30 wake up he used to do. Does he suddenly have lower sleep needs? Could a sleep regression really last 3 weeks straight? Is he ready to not nap during the day anymore, even though everything I’ve read says kids need at least one nap until at least 2 years of age? Daycare says he still naps 2-3 hours a day but I’m not sure if they’re exaggerating to make themselves look better. I’m exhausted!

my heart is breaking...

For the past 2 weeks or so, my son's attitude has changed from liking to go places to fighting every time I need to leave the house... he is 8. He stays in his room alot... just wants to eat in there... he will come out from time to time. It's got to a point he doesn't even want to go to school. He missed 3 days last week. He does adhd and odd. Me and my partner are at a breaking point. We can't figure out why he is acting this way. It just started all of a sudden... I miss my sweet boy😭😭. Im running out of options 😥

Is perfume avoidance necessary?

Early on I heard to avoid any perfumes or heavily scented products because they can make baby go on a nursing strike or irritate their skin. Due to this I have only been wearing deodorant since she was born and avoiding all my perfumes and lotions. That being said, scent was a huge part of my life before. I picked how I smelt based on my mood/season and it was a very special part of my daily routine. I’d love to bring it back, but obviously not at the expense of my LO. So the question is, how long should I avoid scented products? Or do I even need to? For some background: my LO is currently 9 weeks old and breastfeeds like a champ but also easily takes bottles at daycare.
