I've gotta protect my wheels 🛞 After spotting some “gator-back” rocks, I’ll be taking an alternate path as I continue to explore Mount Sharp. The wind-sharpened stones could cause serious damage to my wheels so it’s best to avoid them. https://t.co/8RWUpSc9Rn https://t.co/4u0RvHLLrg

An unexpected terrain change – wind-sharpened rocks – has prompted the @MarsCuriosity team to reroute the rover away from those hazards to continue up Mount Sharp. Similar knife-edged stones chewed up the rover’s wheels earlier in the mission. https://t.co/UIo2pUd5l0 https://t.co/kt5hcVlXoY

This may look like a grainy photo of sky, but its not, its actually a very pixel dense picture of space and the grains are actually trillions of stars

#OTD 21 years ago: @NASA’s Mars Odyssey launch 🚀 The orbiter has mapped the composition of the Martian surface, uncovered troves of water ice, served as a communications link for other spacecraft, and helped pave the way not just for safer landings but also future astronauts. https://t.co/3p5jy3ZGRl

How do people who study astronomy not become extremely nihilistic?
With the galaxy that we live in measuring by some estimates 100,000 light years across, all of the radio transmissions of man moving at the speed of light have covered a fraction of a percent of the stars in our own galaxy, and our own galaxy is just a drop in the ocean when considering the trillions of other galaxies that exist. We are on a tiny planet, orbiting a tiny star in the sea of unfathomable void.

The first spacewalk of the shuttle program happened #OTD in 1983. The spacewalk, performed by STS-6 astronauts Musgrave & Peterson, lasted about 4 hours & 17 minutes. The primary payload for the mission was the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite-1(TDRS-1). https://t.co/L7vPzbecDG https://t.co/ZrUSELQgPE

#TDIH in 2001: NASA's Mars Odyssey was launched to the Red Planet. The mission was named "2001 Mars Odyssey" as a tribute to Arthur C. Clarke's influential science fiction story. More on the mission via @NASAJPL: https://t.co/RB8iPDvs96 https://t.co/C6C2jZA43X
