Just passing by… The galactic pair NGC 3314 might look like they’re colliding, but they’re tens of millions of light-years apart and moving in different directions. It’s just our perspective that makes them appear aligned in this #HubbleClassic image: https://t.co/1jtg8ioYk0 https://t.co/JMpYqmFaAv

how do telescopes function like time machines?

So, I have 0 background in astronomy so can someone explain this to me like I'm 5? In the lastest news about James Webb telescope and the images sent by it, someone mentioned that telescopes act like time machines by capturing images of the universe/ star from millions of years ago. I understand the basic idea that since the star or the object is soooooo far away, it takes that much about of time for the light to reach our eyes, and that the star is probably dead by the time we are able to see it. but if the telescope was sent recently (in today's time) how is it able to capture something from the past in real time? I hope I made sense :3.

Any astronomers out there? I’m writing a book and I have questions about whether two people could theoretically travel to one of Jupiter’s moons.

Could two people realistically travel to one of Jupiter’s moons? What kind of spacecraft would be needed for that kind of journey? Any other input about traveling in space would also be much appreciated!
