Cosmonauts (from left) Denis Matveev and Oleg Artemyev configure the European robotic arm on the Nauka multipurpose laboratory module during a spacewalk on April 18, 2022. The duo will exit the International Space Station again on Aug. 17, 2022, for a spacewalk to continue preparing the European robotic arm (ERA) for operations on the station’s Russian segment. The duo has been readying their Russian Orlan spacesuits, spacewalking tools, and the Poisk module’s airlock for next week’s planned six-and-half-hour spacewalk. #cosmonaut #nauka #poisk #era #european #robotic #arm #walk #spacewalk #international #space #station

What happens after a massive star blows its top? ⭐ The supergiant star Betelgeuse experienced a huge mass ejection of its visible surface back in 2019 – something never before seen in a normal star’s behavior. As a result, it decreased in brightness because the escaped material cooled to form a cloud of dust that temporarily made the star look dimmer, as seen from Earth. Hubble can observe this phenomenon directly and even resolve surface details. Its observations are helping piece together the clues in this stellar mystery. Betelgeuse is one of the brightest stars in our sky, and can be found in the right “shoulder” of the constellation Orion. It’s such a big star that, if it took the place of our Sun in the center of our solar system, it would extend past the orbit of Jupiter! Learn more about this unusual star at the link in our bio.
