Origin of solar nebula

Dear astronomers. I have been searching and searching but didn't get a clear answer yet. The question is the following: What is the origin of the solar nebula? So far I understand this: * The solar nebula was a large nebula made out of gasses and matter, including H and He, but also C, Fe, O, etc... * Presumably a shockwave from a nearby supernova led to the collapse of this nebula, initiating the work of gravity to eventually lead to an accretion disc. So my theory so far is the following: the solar nebula itself is made out of the remnants of supernovas from red giants that were formed in the early universe. The remnants happen to merge eventually into a big nebula. This would explain why the nebula contained traces of atoms other than H and He. So... how far off am I? Many thanks in advance! Kind greetings.
