When Maverick ejected at Mach 10.5, he was going 7,000 mph, giving him 400 million joules of kinetic energy — the explosive power of 100 kg of TNT. A situation that human physiology is not designed to survive. So, no. Maverick does not walk away from this. He be dead. Very dead.

It’s #WorldSpaceWeek! Since this year’s theme of “Space and Sustainability” hits a little closer to home, we're exploring some of the ways @NASA's orbiting and airborne systems give us a unique view of our interconnected world. 🌎 (1/8) https://t.co/TLrFRqkIdX

A brilliant 3D rendering of Mars and its latent sources of water, the key basis for colonization. Four billion years ago, potential settlement would have been a lot easier; it's striking how much of the red planet used to be blue.

Is faster then light travel possible?
We've seen in many games and media that FTL travel is an idea that pops into people's minds. But is it possible in real life, is it possible to have the technology or science to create or mass produce the necessary equipment to travel faster than light and travel that would otherwise take thousands or even millions of years and take a few days. If this were to happen, humanity would advance and progress to a degree never seen before or since. The dream of humanity ruling the stars has finally come true. Or is this just a distant fantasy that will never come true and we are all doomed to die cold and lonely, all the questions we asked never being answered.

Late to the party here, but In this year’s @TopGunMovie, @TomCruise’s character Maverick ejects from a hypersonic plane at Mach 10.5, before it crashed. He survived with no injuries. At that air speed, his body would splatter like a chainmail glove swatting a worm. Just sayin’. https://t.co/YP9IKVc8VS
