Questions about cap table

I am new to venture investing and wanted to learn about cap tables. I see on some cap tables they have Series A, Series A1, Series A2, Series B, Series B1, Series B2. Why are there so many series? How do they relate to each other? Under the Series A column, are all new people that are not the original/early employees on the cap table investors? I saw that 1 employee was issued Series A shares. Does that mean he invested his own money as part of that round? Thanks
