People doing yoga before the class begins

I’ve been working in the fitness industry for 10 years and have tried many different activities over the years, but only just decided to try yoga. I went to a class on Sunday where the teacher was late so we started as soon as she got there and opened the studio. I went to my second class today, and we had about 10-15min of people arriving and setting up in the studio before the class started. In that time several people started doing their own flows, including some rather impressive things, while I just sat on my mat and waited. Is that a normal thing, for people to get started before the class? It surprised me as I’ve never been to another type of class where anyone did more than a little light stretching or mobility work before the actual class started. To me, as an outsider it seemed kind of like they were showing off, but I realise that may just be my interpretation. Does this happen everywhere?

3 pigeon pose variations

The first variation with the foot hooked under the rib isn’t suitable for beginners and must be practiced with lots of awareness, please don’t try this if you experience any discomfort around the knee. The second variation with the foot hooked in the elbow crease (mermaid pose) might be suitable for beginners that already feel comfortable in pigeon pose, it’s a lovely stretch and a perfect prep for king pigeon pose. The third variation with the double bind is very tricky, won’t really be accesible to try for beginners. For those who want to try, remember no pain in the knees is a must.

Question For Teachers (About Subbing)

I’m a new teacher and so far I’m only on the sub list at one studio. It seems like most of the sun requests come through like 24-36 hours before the class. Is this normal? Such short notice makes it hard to coordinate with work. Hoping to get some as many teaching opportunities as I can so I can become a better teacher. Thank you and namaste!

How to clean my mat

Hey guys, a few months ago I bought my first mat and today I realized (surprise!) that it needs to be cleaned. It's starting to smell not very good. Needless to say I don't know how to do it. Do you have some tips there ? Thank you

Has anyone tried the online yoga course from Karin Dimitrovova? [https://go.karindimitrovova.com/the-core-play-eu2](https://go.karindimitrovova.com/the-core-play-eu2) If so, what do you think about it? How was your experience?

What prep poses should I be doing to ready my body for pincha one day

I’m still at the advanced beginner intermediate stage of my practice. Just getting into playing with arm balances but I will like I’m lacking some core strength and shoulder strength as well. Are there any variations?? Are there modification that make it “easier” to get your legs up to the wall? Build strength in certain areas before hand? I’m also in 200 he training and some can do it and some cannot. I’d love to work up to it.

What is your opinion on Ahimsa in practicing martial arts?

Ive been practicing Yoga for a few years and have been noticing the benefits in my life in following and studying the Yamas and Niyamas. Therefore, martial arts are sports which I have a lot of fun practicing. It develops stamina, strenght and discipline. I am also a very kind and gentle person, so even in gym fight I dont with the opponent harm and I use throws and arm locks. I dont feel good aiming at sensible spots either. But Im an excelent fighter (Im a female). Am I cheating on this Yama? Im thinking about starting judo or shaolin kung fu.
